RNS510 Satnav road selection

Post by finetrond »

Does any have any similar issues or solution to my problem? When driving longer distances and crossing big cities that have ring roads the satnav insist on taking the shortest route straight thru middle of the cities, I'm talking province capitals in China so cities with millions. is it the same with the European maps also?
And also it makes unitelligent choices following a express road that loops back onto another that would have been a quicker choice in the first place.

I got the satnav selecting 3 different routes 1 & 2 are often similar and 3 the green one with some ridiculous 500 km detour thru inner mongolia

mines the opposite, takes the most convoluted arse about tit way imaginable. its a total pain in the arse. If youignore it, it gets the hump, then goes 'yeah ok, you're routes 10 mins faster'

urgh!

you can select route preferences in settings failing that, I think vw possibly do an update?

My RNS510 is usually ok... 90% of the time in fact. It goes absolutely mad when there is traffic on a chosen route, then it directs you off dual carriage ways and motorways into city centres; and of course, minor routes dont have traffic updates on the RNS, so it could potentially lead you from Frying Pan to fire!! Had this on two occasions on long journeys.... But most of the time, it's ok

So it isn't just here the satnav makes some strange choices. I'm not having big hopes for an upgrade of the China maps. With the gov hating on Googlei can't make google maps work either. Well bteween the car satnav, the imaps in the iphone and the wife reading road signs we have gotten lost so far.
