Sumatra v Pewter Grey

Post by Mr_Twister »

Hi guys, have had a look through everything here and also online to do with Sumatra - are we certain this colour is Sumatra?

Image

If it is, it looks amazing. Has anyone seen it in real life? I know there are other pics eg

Image

but it looks totally different there. Obviously artificial v natural light plays a part but the 1st one seems much darker. If it is the first one, me want! But if it looks that weird kind of bleugh colour in the daylight then I don't. Which means I'll probably go for pewter grey as something a bit different.

So, question is simply this - has anyone, anywhere seen Sumatra for real?

It's like a browny purlply kind of colour :)

Go to an Audi garage. Their lava grey is very very similar. I've got a friend with a lava grey A3. It's not my personal cup of tea. Looks a bit too brown but in some light it looks very purple.

Yep , both are Sumatra my first colour choice . Then I saw a new Audi A3 cabrio in the simlilar colour - looked great but a bit too purply and girly for me. :hyper: (the audi was occupied by a couple of blondes - they looked good in it!)

I reckon sumatra is like Saabs espresso black that was on the older 9-3, it changes colour depending on how the light hits it, goes, brown to like an oily blue / grey, very smart in the flesh.

Here's probably the best Sumatra shots I've found on the web....

Dealer told me ages ago that someone he knew that had saw it in the flesh and said it was disgusting, I absolutely love it. I think the Truffle Leather really suits Sumatra more than the Black.

I think those who have dared to order Sumatra are very lucky as it will look fab and still stand out when this car becomes more common on the roads.

Sumatra is exactly the same ( or damn near ) to Saabs old 9-3 colour i think it was called espresso black, it has an almost purplish / brown oily sheen effect, just like the surface of a black coffee, and in the flesh its gorgeous, pictures do not do it justice, you really need to see it in person.

Sumatra looks really good in those! Still haven't ordered the car, sorting finance questions, but it does now (again) bring up the blooming colour question - I thought I'd settled on black! Grrr...

Picked up my car today which is in sumatra just like to say that the colour looks great it is very dark grey, almost identical to the colour of my old A3. I have uploaded a few pictures to the gallery, taken in what passes for daylight at the moment here is one.

Thanks. I was happy with the choice until I found some of the comments on a couple of web sites about what this looked like in the flesh  . Too much time waiting for it to arrive with access to the Internet! I did take the sample outside and put it up against my previous car and a couple of black ones in the dealership but that was months ago!
