MQB Platform

Post by mgreer11 »

Guys,

I've ordered the new Scirocco due for delivery in a couple of weeks. I've read a bit about the MQB Platform (not enough to understand what it is!) Is it a big deal that it's on in the a Rocco but in the Golf? Or not worth the forum post thinking about!? Also.... What is it? :)

Any thoughts?

It's the fundamental platform that the car is built around and basically defines s large part of the cars dynamics and how it handles and to a certain extent.what it ways. The MQB is supposed to be a sifnificant step forward from previous platforms and it would seem from the reviews of the MK7 Golf that may well be true.

Is it a big deal that the facelift Rocco is still ob the old platform, yes and no. In everyday driving you probably wouldn't notice but if you track the car or push on a bit then you probably would notice.

A MQB based Scirocco would probably be about 100kg lighter, more fuel efficient and have significantly more advanced electrical systems similar to what is available on the Mk7 Golf.

Radar Cruise Control, collision avoidance, park assist, etc.

One thing MQB based higher powered Sciroccos would benefit from is the electronically controlled locking diff.

Sciroccos have brake actuated XDS to mimic the effect of a limited slip differential.

Mk7 Golf GTi Performance Pack has an electronically controlled limited slip diff that uses a multi plate clutch within the diff to transfer up to 100% power to either front wheel without using the brakes.
