Roof bars/ bike rack

Post by Matt444jc10 »

Hi all.

I have a 2010 Scirocco and i'm looking for some roof bars so i can mount my bikes on the roof.

I've looked at halfords and they don't do them, the only ones i can seem to find are cheap ones on ebay and i don't know if i trust them :/

Has anybody got any reputable ones they would reccomend? if not, has anyone adapted the car in any other way to support bikes?

I've tried a bike rack that clips onto the boot but my bikes are downhill specific so the frames don't fit properly and the last time i did it they fell off (costing me almost a grand in repairs!!!).

Thanks

I use the Saris bones rear mounted rack as I don't want to put bars on and off the car, and cost was an issue! Saris do sell a straight bar to fit to your bike so the bike sits level on the rack to get round the downhill bike frame issue, which may work out cheaper than roof bars as Saris Bone 2 is around £100-130 depending if it's in sale and the straight bar is around £30. I do recommend though that you get the hatch hugger accessories for the saris as they fit better on the roc tailgate.

Hope this helps,
