Hi all!
Long story short, after DSG problems (which I'm sure are related to the recall) I was told the gearbox failed, and a new one would have to be fitted.
After much arguing thus was knocked down to £400 (car is a 2009) however it was 'fixed' in 4 days -
I'm very sceptical that a box has been fitted and believe they have just fixed the recall & are trying to charge me.
Would you know where the gearbox number is stamped (when fitted to the car) and if its visible without it on ramps.
Thanks all!

Not sure about the gearbox number, but I would be amazed if the gearbox was replaced for £400, especially on a 2009.
I would still expect goodwill payments, but not to that extent, like you I would be very sceptical.
Not sure how much a new DSG gearbox is, but including labour, anything up to £4K is possible. If the car has been serviced correctly by VW, and mileage is in accordance with its year, it's not beyond possibility that it was fitted for £400 but I would be surprised.

I was quoted £4200 for the box, and 'beat them down' to £400..
I've worked in automotive for 15 years, and am getting more and more worried that this is going to end badly!

You'll need ramps, a car lift or a pit to find the part number.
However VCDS/VagCom can report the part number and software build.
Do you have an invoice from a franchised VW retailer stating they've replaced the box complete with part numbers etc? The dealer would be in world of pain from VW if they invoiced this even with large discount if the work wasn't done.
