problem with dsg

I've got a 2.0 tsi with dsg, and the gearbox at random times loses gear,slips into neutral and the engine revs. This normally happens at least once on a journey and it lasts for up to 5 seconds, and is unpredictable. All the P D S N lights start to flash on the digital display on the dashboard and the 'depress footbrake' green light on the dashboard also comes on.
Any ideas please; the car is 1 and a half months old and has just done over 2000 miles!

TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH CAME UP WITH NOTHING....

Oh. Well it sounds like there is definitely still a problem. If it happens pretty much every journey, I would ask if a mechanic from the dealers could come out with you for a drive, to witness it.

My 2.0 TDI has had the same problem. I was on the motorway and then the PRNDS lights started flashing. I tried putting it into manual, the 654321 lights were flashing. The depress footbrake light came on also. It lasted for about 30 seconds and then went back into gear.

I've taken it into the garage and no fault codes were recorded. Has anybody else managed to have theirs fixed?

It's 6 wks old with 2500 miles on the clock. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

At about 2,500 miles I took my DSG Edition 30 for a 'spirited' drive over about 2 miles on a very twisty road and upset the DSG completely !!

I ended up with it on the back of an RAC truck and getting it taken to the garage after it went into limp home mode then went into 1st gear - and wouldn't change out of it.

What had I done .... driven gently for miles ... then changed to manual mode for the bends. Holding the gears at 5500rpm to 6300rpm between bends so not to upset the balance of the car ... it was great - until the gearbox ECU decided it didn't like it and pulled the plug effectively ...

Garage checked, no problems though the original 'gear disengagement' was shown on the computer. They suggested I had been too gentle with it from new and the gearbox had got used to this 'gentle' driving (when I was running it in !!). They cleared the memory from the unit and sent a mechanic out to effectively 'thrash' it for a few miles so it built up a new memory of a more aggressive driving style. Now over 9K with no problems since !

I think what this and many posts like it show is that whilst some control units are no good the problems can often relate to the software which is overly cautious and when they detect anything untoward they go into limp home mode (with flashing symbols, etc) to protect the gearbox. The gearboxes themselves seem rock solid - just the control units that are a pain !

As far as I am aware this is a very common problem across both VW and Audi DSGs. If you google DSG and Problem you will find many threads across all different forums describing the exact symptoms you have. VW must be aware of the problem even if diagnostics don't return any fault codes. Until very recently I was considering buying a used MK5 GTI DSG but this put me right off. Gone for a new Rocco now though, so things ain't all bad!

Just to keep everything in proportions - They have sold more than 1 million DSG gearboxes, so the failure rate seems very low.

I've been running my new car in following vw's recommendations and its kind of worrying that once i decide to open it up that the gearbox might go into limp mode. I'm not saying to thrash the life out of it but during running in the dsg box almost makes you a over cautious driver. It changes very smoothly and quickly but 6th gear at 35mph and change ups at very low revs. I know its down to how much throttle you give it also but it does seem to store these early days in its memory. I don't know the vw system will start to change its memory if you start to build up the speed over time or if it goes by its first few days. I'd have thought it would gradually adapt. What would upset it would be to run it in gentle to 1001 miles then at 1002 miles rev the life out of it. Too much of a change and so it tries to protect itself.

The first time it happened to me I was cruising at 50mph in a roadworks section of the M1. The other times I was doing 70mph on a motorway and it just lost drive. So I don't think my problem can be anything to do with driving style.

Never knew this existed had my Golf 3 years 55reg DSG and give it full beans most of the time never had one single issue ever over 3 years ,, i thought it really likes this!!!!!

Think they must just like getting cained from day one lol!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn.t even consider a VW without it best thing since sliced bread top top notch stuff

My Rocco should be here soon 12 weeks or so and the first thing i ticked was DSG followed sharply by reverse parking sensors....all seems to make so much sense,,, really don.t see how anyone would want the manual ,,,,, i was a manual man all my life throughout many sports car ive owned and the DSG is next to perfect ( i will put my flame jacket on now )
