Boot opening...

Post by lsuhe »

Having currently got a Golf MkV GT TDI, the boot is easy to open, just make sure that it is unlocked with 2 clicks on the remote key fob and then press the big VW logo in on the tailgate and it opens....
On the curent remote we have are 3 buttons, Lock, Unlock Boot, and Unlock.
The unlock boot function on the remote does nothing.

With the Scirocco I know that there is an additional switch in (or near) the drivers door to unlock and open the boot. As far as I know the tailgate does not have any switches / microswitches to open it if the car is unlocked.

Is the only way to open the boot to use the switch in the door? Is there a button on the remote that will open the boot?

Sorry its a sull topic but SWBMO drives for work (in Golf) and soon Scirocco, and opens boot a lot for work...

Many thanks
Chris

There is also a functioning 'open boot' button on the remote key. Press this and the boot pops open (not fully open, just unlocks and then you pull it up yourself).

There is a button on the key fob with a boot opening symbol on which you press and hold for a few seconds to open the boot or you can press the switch on the drivers door.

I've just posted in The Delivery Room about a problem with my boot opening, but to open do you have to click your remote, pull the tailgate, click the remote again and then pull again to open the boot? I was told this is a design feature.

I found this on another forum to rectify the boot opening problem :

"Have you got both bump stops near fitted near the strut ends on the rear hatch? One on its own cannot spring the tailgate free of the lock.

Check that both bump stops are extended. It is posible to lock them in the retracted position. Twist anti-clockwise about 1/8th of a turn and it will extend if locked up.

The bump stops may be adjusted incorrectly. The extended length is too short, so they don't push the rear hatch upwards enough to clear the lock mechanism when the latch releases so the lock grabs the securing lock pin again on the inner boot lip. Adjusting is a 3mm Allen Key through the rubber boot hole at the bottom. Unscrew the grub screw almost all the way out. The stopper is on a serated edge and a little bit tuft to push and pull but should move. Then retighten the brub screw, being sure to pick up on its thread as its a self tapper screw".

I'm pretty sure the unlock boot button on your Golf's remote will unlock the boot without opening the doors if you hold the button in for a few seconds. Then when you close the boot it will automatically lock again.
