Am i asking for too much?
I currently have my car on autotrader for £12500, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281367709485? ... 962wt_1348" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but i am yet to have any real interest, with the exception of a swap, 10.5k and a general 'really interested in your car' with no follow up, so the question is, am i asking for too much? I did my research and for the mileage and spec, its the cheapest white roc out there. Do you think the mods will be putting people off? Should i stick it on autotrader instead? There are 10 people watching it, but that means nothing!

Re: Am i asking for too much?
I recently part exchanged my 2010, 16000 mile candy white tdi170 and got £13K for it (on a £65K Porsche) so seems you might be a tad high. Mine had DSG, Dynaudio and Nav which are all expensive, desirable options that you dont have.
I suspect you would be better off removing the bits and pieces and getting it back closer to stock. Why wouldn't you advertise it on Autotrader?
I would never buy a car off ebay.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
Personally I would agree, I recently paid similar to your asking price for my late 2010 GT in similar spec. Only difference is sunroof and mine is in standard spec.
I always think mod's limit your target market. Might be worth removing them and see if you get any more interest.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
Yes - when I saw your car is a 2008, I did wince a bit when I saw how much you were asking, I guess the mods. will add to the value but not by much. As a comparison I was offered £12K on my 2009 Roc a year ago with 16K on the clock. I think you will have to drop by at least £1,750 to start getting interest. As others have suggested, mods can put prospective buyers off.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
I put the details into webuyanycar and it quoted 10.7k and wouldn't let it go for that. Im not trying to get more money because of the mods, its purely just me being lazy and not removing them! The cheapest white roc under 40k miles is 12.8k and thats a 2009.

Similar priced cars on ebay have 70k+ miles on them. I put it on ebay, as i thought it would go quickly! I've only had it on for a week, so will stick it on trader, minus the mods!

Re: Am i asking for too much?
Actually your research here is encouraging that values appear to still be quite buoyant, as I say a year ago I was offered £12K P/X by a VW dealer, I am sure if I went back today I would be offered somewhere in the £10's. Good luck anyway, but yes - I think dropping the mods would be of benefit here.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
Remember that mid 09's onwards have the refreshed dash / console / wheel so your older mk5 style example will stick out.
£12.5k is strong money for age particularly with mods, trying advertising without modifications and your plate covered up elsewhere to see if the mods are putting off potential buyers, if you still don't get much interest then drop the price by £500 and repeat.
The market at the moment just seems quiet TBH, my R isn't generating that much interest beyond daydream prices lower than the px figure I've got.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
Thanks for the replies. I agree that last year the prices seemed to be dropping, however them seem to have steadied again. At the end of the day i suppose its only worth what people are willing to pay for it! Reduced to 12k and removing mods.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
We're now getting into holiday time which means people are spending money on holidays and not cars. The other thing wirh cars of this value is that very few people have £12k lying around at the moment and personal loans are harder to get than they used to be, therefore people are willing to pay a premium at a dealer over a private sale for finance, trade-in and warranty.
Selling a car privately.these days is a nightmare but good luck anyway.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
As mentioned I think the problem is people just don't have 12k spare, so end up going to local dealer and going down the finance route.
Have you had a look through the glasses guide or parkers guide? As when i purchased my scirocco i was looking at the trade glasses guide and strangely all second hand cars increased by around £500 between March and April. I spoke to a local car sales and apparently the reason being there was a shortage of good quality second hand cars. As i said earlier might be worth removing mods and advertising in like prestige section of local papers. Me personally i prefer a car without mods and can apply my own touch rather than buy in to another person's tastes.

Would you even remove the black badges?

Re: Am i asking for too much?
I would say you should be ok to leave them on, as your wheels are black and no other chrome on your car.
Always wondered why the badges are chrome as it is basically the only bit of chrome on the car, unless you have the chrome tip exhausts the badges look a bit out of place.

Re: Am i asking for too much?
If you want something rather depressing to hear...my local VW dealer offered me £14,500 for my Jan 2014 registered GT170 DSG with Xenons, Reversing Sensors, folding mirrors, Truffle Leather, Nav against a new Golf GTD DSG with heaps of options. It's just covered 30,000 and he assumed it would be at 35,000 miles when the new car was delivered. Told him to FRO - then he offered me £16k against an ex Demo GTD DSG with 10,000 miles on the clock, leather and DCC options. finance was a staggering 9.1% APR whereas it was 7.1% on the new car. Again, told him to go away.
Edit: Jan 2013 not 2014!

Jan 2014 with 30K miles? I am guessing perhaps you mean Jan 2012/13?
Re: Am i asking for too much?
