I was just wondering what kind of courtesy cars everyone has had when they've taken their cars in to be serviced by VW. I know it sounds awfully snobby, but I was really disappointed last year when I drove out in my 1.2 Polo with no air con on the hottest day of the year...My friend has a fairly old Audi S3 and was given a lovely Audi A4 when hers went in. Someone else I know with an Audi A3 the same, my friend who has a Golf but didn't have his serviced at VW had a Porsche as his courtesy car. It feels like everywhere gives really nice courtesy cars except where I go. -__- My service is coming up soon so I'm hoping it's not a really hot day again.

I've had all sorts!
Golf plus
Golf 1.4 Bluemotion (Mk VII)
Scirocco 2.0tdi (170bhp)
I think I have had an UP too... My dealer is usually pretty good anyway, their service is top notch. Sometimes, it's luck of the drawer. Ask to see what they have in
I haven't had a courtesy car for a while, preferring for them to give me a lift to work, normally a massive wait list for a car. Normally a base Polo but once I had a Golf Plus.
My dealer is usually very good - but I'm not too concerned about what I get !
Over the years I have had
Up - with a terrifyingly stern lady SatNav voice. Think she used to be in the army during 39-45.
Beetle TSi - think the SatNav was a hippy "...go along this road for quite a while..." !
Golf - various from 1.4 to GTi
Touran 1.6
Scirocco 2.0 TSi and 2.0 TDi BMT
If ever they run out of the normal "bottom end" courtesy cars, I tend to get the sales teams latest toy for the day.
I never mind what they give me because, after tootling around in a 1.0 Polo for the day, you really appreciate getting back into your Scirocco with the power and options on your own cars.
D
Passat
Polo (all current models at the time and small engines. I wanted to have the 1997 1.6GL on their forecourt last time I was there, but got told it was a customer car)
I had an Up! Rock last time. Nice little car except I was pretty sure it was diesel until I fund out they didn't do them. Noisier than I expected it to be.
Previous to that I'd had a lift home in a polo.

haha a noisy petrol engine! Perhaps it only had 3 cylinders
The 3 cylinder.engine is the Up is a hoot despite it not being very refined.
When I get a courtesy car, I don't care what it is as long as it keeps me mobile. The cost has to be accounted for somewhere so expensive courtesy cars means expensive servicing. Also because I own a.Rocco doesn't make me a more special customer than one who owns an Up. Far too much brand and car snobbery about.
My local VW dealer charges for a courtesy car. Is this the same at other dealers? It's £12.50 for insurance and doesn't include fuel.
My 12 plate is due a service in 3 weeks. As it's 2 years old the online booking service recommends new brake fluid and an aircon service. Just wondering if this is necessary? It's done almost 20,000 miles. If so, how much is this likely to cost?

1st brake fluid change is at 3yrs and then 2yrs thereafter, therefore it's not required until next year.
If the air con is working fine and the air is nice and cool, the air con service is not required, despite what the dealer may say.

My local dealer also charges for the courtesy car so I never get one. I just sit and wait for it to be serviced. And enjoy looking at the receptionist.

As said earlier - total tosh and the dealer trying to make a fast buck out of you for work that is not required. I would be very wary of using a dealer who adopts these tactics.... dodgy...
I asked mine why they don't give you a nicer car as courtesy to make you want to upgrade he laughed and said enjoy the fox then after that I got a golf gtd that was rapid but I did have a polo at the time
Well today's the day.....I got a Golf GTI! Weeeeee!
It's actually been really good having a go of this, I was always curious about driving a DSG as at some point in the future I'd really like a Roc R possibly with DSG.

Hehee well initially they handed me the keys for a Polo and I cheekily said "Oh are these the keys to that GTI out there then?" wink wink nudge nudge, not really thinking anything would come of it other than a laugh. Then the lady said " actually servicing gave me these this morning." and she handed me the keys to the GTI.
I really enjoyed it, and I haven't ever driven an automatic before so it was a great experience trying out the DSG. I understand the ' pop' everyone talks about now. Weeee! I have to say though, although it was marginally quicker than my Roc, I still preferred mine. The Roc felt much more rugged to drive, the pedals and steering were much firmer whereas the GTI was quite light and floaty and the interior wasn't a patch on the Roc. The Roc feels sportier to me with its low roof and shape. But it certainly made me want a Roc R possibly with DSG.
Good for you getting hold of the GTI! Slightly off topic here, I test drove a MK7 Golf GTI last year, and I tend to agree with you, I still preferred my Roc. Even with the 220PS engine and increased torque I could not really feel much of an improvement over my current car, it has to be said though we were 3 up in the Golf and it only had 1,500 on the clock.
