2.0 TSI - my new fuel record

Post by RocMan »

521.5 miles from my last tank of fuel - mix of all driving conditions but mainly A roads and I didn't drive slow, just as usual held up behind a few tractors. Really impressed with the performance and economy you get from this engine. Has anyone else got near that?

521 miles! Wow - that is impressive. Most I have managed was just over 400, although I don't have the nerve to run it on fumes.

I've been over 300 once or twice but that's about it!!

I quite like the range meter sometimes though. I forgot to fill up after leaving my parents place a couple of weekends ago. The range reckoned I had 180 miles in the tank. I had 160 miles to go. As it was a little tight I decided to just pootle back for a change. By the time I got home I still had 120 miles in the tank :) But it wasn't as much fun!

I used to own a Mazda RX-8 before my Roc, and there is a thread on the RX-8 OC forum entitled "300 mile club", basically for anyone that achieves the rare event of getting 300 miles to a tank. Bear in mind the tank on an RX-8 is 61 litres ~13 gallons 'ish!

400 miles in the Roc is fairly comfortable, but requires restraint.

Having just bought ours, one reason was a more economical car, coming from a Corsa VXR which barely got 300 miles on a tank. Our first tank has done 100 miles and has 350 left, well impressed.

Oh really, are they known for being a bit off? We've done 100 miles and it's only dropped 1/8th of a tank.

375 max ive got full motorway ! not driving slow either.

I did however get 350 off £50 quid once that was to london and in the city cruise and back up north.

Rarely get over that. i dont understand how you get over 400 to be honest. either you dont drive a 2.0 TSI how it should be driven or i couldnt even say anything else

You must drive it hard! Can only think I'm helped by generally flat roads and 50mph convoys. I do use the performance when given the chance, this record included a couple of long runs but I was stuck in heavy traffic for parts.

The last tankfuls have been:

521
435
502
423
455
454
481
398
447
443

Average = 455.9

Who needs a diesel!

I can get 730 miles out of one tank in my diesel. (at an indicated 70mph on the M62, which has a couple of hills on it!)

I can also get less than 400 miles out of it, so who knows how you're getting better than that out of a TSi.

Of course this is not an exact science. When I 'fill' my tank, I generally stop as soon as I feel the resistance in the trigger, but I am sure I could trickle some more fuel in and brim it right up. I would say I get around 360 average, but then again I refill normally just before the light is about to come on (around the 50-60 miles range mark).

I calculated my mpg by recording miles covered between filling tank- my best was 39
I used to get about 600 miles out of a tank full on my old Scimitar coupe- but that did have a 20 gallon tank!
