I have seen a couple of 13 plate Sciroccos recently with the main beam lamps on dimly like other VW's (no tail lights, side lights). Assuming this is a new specification for the recent models, do you think we could have our older cars set like that at the Dealers now?
I Emailed VW asking why they were set up with all the lights on and they said that they couldn't be changed. They said some Polo's are like it too.
Agree with all above. You can use VAGCOM to dim the beams if you leave them acting as DRLs. There is an area where you can tinker with percentage brightness IIRC
Dealers are not interested in doing this (and many not even capable). Find a memebr here with VCDS and they wil sort it for you - it takes a minute or so at the most! If you are anywhere near Herts/Essex/N London I will do it.
Being new to VW and to this forum, I need some help, please.......
I have a two week old 2.0 GT Auto, and the DRL's are driving me up the wall. I know that they are in the Headlights, but I am being flashed by other drivers in daylight!!!
Is there any way to alter this, or retro fit a set of separate DRL's? I also had fitted some power folding mirrors, which are manually controlled. IS there any way to make them open/close via the central locking system?
This is a great forum, it's great to see so many people enthusiastic about their cars.

Dougal - Welcome! I am assuming you have standard headlights (rather than xenons) - if so, the 'DRL' s are not in the headlights as such - they are simply the headlights themselves being permenantly switched on. Xenon equipped cars, on the other hand, do have seperate dedicated DRL lights within the main lamp unit. In either instance the headlight issue is no problem to sort out - if you have xenons you simply switch them off by unchecking the box in your MFD. If they are conventional lights you will need to return the function of the light control rotary knob to normal operation with VCDS (just depends on finding someone with it who is close enough to you), have a look at our advice in Roccopedia. Sadly, the mirrors folding with the central locking has been oft discussed, hoped for but never yet achieved as far as I am aware.
Thanks for the replies. I made an error and should have said that my mirrors are already power folding, but only from the control on the drivers door. Can I get the power folding to work via the ignition/key fob?
I live in Tunbridge Wells, is there anyone near me who has access to Vagcom and could help with the DRLs.....naturally cash can change hands!!
