Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
Morning guys,
First off, great forum - it's a really usful for people looking into buying a new car!
Anyways... I'm thinking about getting a Scirocco and have just been to drive test drive of the 2.0 TSI. I'm pretty impressed to be honest it seems like a great car. The only thing is at the moment I'm doing a ~100 miles commute so as much as I hate to admit it fuel consumption is something I'm going to have to consider!
What sort of milage a people getting from their petrol and diesel 'rocs? As much as I liked the petrol engine, the dealers car had only averaged 26mpg (that would add another £~100 a month over my current petrol bill). I was hoping for more like 30-35mpg is that realistic? To give you an idea of my commute it's along the A29 and almost always at a steady 50-60mph.
I did a quick search and found a few threads mentioning MPG but thought I'd post something up to say hi.
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
Welcome and thank you
On a town commute I get about 22-24mpg. On a longer motorway run I get 33-35.
We've got a few members on here who do regular runs of the same sort of length as you so I'm sure they'll post up soon with the results.

Re: Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
Hi Tom
I did a 200 mile journey yesterday - 50 mile B roads and 150miles on the A1. The traffic was quite heavy for the first 50 miles but maintained an almost constant speed of 60mph with the odd roundabout. The A1 was clear the entire way home.
I averaged 45mpg for the first 50miles and 37 over the entire journey.
My car is run in with 6,500 miles.
Hope that helps

Welcome aboard Tom - you'll love it... !
Looks, performance, the 'x' factor - the Rocc has it all
I'm a tad right-footed
I'm also addicted to the turbo surge when over / undertaking whenever a gap presents itself....
Needless to say my average mpg according to the computer is 23
I brimmed with V Power yesterday & the computer told me that would do 310 miles based on current average mpg
Worth every penny imo

I wish I had your self-restrain & discipline lolheavymetalmayhem wrote:Hi Tom

hi Tom
my roc has now done sh#t loads of miles reckon it does around 32-35 average, commute is 35 miles each way on the motorway, 50-60mph gets really good figures, however, urban driving is a killer i find in em

Re: Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
I've had the car 2 weeks now (2.0 petrol) and did about 900 miles over the weekend, with a total of about 1300 on the clock now.
Rough mpg figures I'm getting...
Cold start around town, 20-25mpg depending on how much time in traffic
Warmed up around town, 25-28mpg depending on traffic
50-60mph, around 40mpg
60-70mph, around 38mpg
70-80mph, around 35mpg
80-85mph, around 34mpg
90+, around 30mpg
Over the entire weekend, I achieved around 34mpg overall, which was a combination of a few hours gridlocked traffic, and mostly motorway runs with cruise control set around 80 for about 5 hours at a time. And at one point managed 360 miles from a full tank with 60 miles remaining
The warmer weather may also improve mpg...
It's possible turning off DRLs may have had a small positive effect too...
However if you're doing 100 miles per day, may be worth considering a diesel if you're on a hard budget

Re: Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
Welcome Tom
i was getting about 36-38 mpg combined before running in. Now the car has been run in i'm a little more heavy with the right foot (novelty of the acceleration hasn't worn off yet). I'm travelling york to surrey every few weeks and on this run get 36-38 when taking it easy, 33 when in a hurry.
Go for it, you'll love it

Re: Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
I've got just over 2k miles on the clock and I've got an average of 30.7MPG. My most regular commute is a 140 mile trip two or three times a week - about 80 miles of that is the M6 motorway and the rest is A roads.... I am fairly heavy footed though.

Re: Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
I drive a Golf GTi (same 2.0T 200bhp engine as the Scirocco) and average around about 29 mpg with mostly town driving. The Scirocco is a couple of mpg more efficient so even mostly cruising about town you should manage to get 31 mpg easily I reckon.Tom B wrote:Morning guys,

Re: Thinking about getting a Scirocco...
Well I just filled up my TDi 'Rocc for the first time - 3 weeks after getting it and filling it up 100yrds from the dealer......
460 miles on the trip meter, 48 litres to brim the tank - thats after a combination of 2 weeks urban commuting to work and back (200 miles), 60 mile countryside trip after picking the car up and 200 mile round trip to the seaside (motorway and A road)
That's just under 44mpg by my maths - a lil better than the 22mpg I was used to in my RX8
According to the average mpg readout I've been doing about 38mpg in the urban crawl, and I did about 56mpg on the combined A-road/motorway trip.
And the cars great too......

That’s very good for your first tank. As you probably know mpg for diesel can improve substantially after the engine is run in.SHutch wrote:Well I just filled up my TDi 'Rocc for the first time - 3 weeks after getting it and filling it up 100yrds from the dealer......

The first leg of my journey was from Scarborough to the M62 on a bank holiday Monday! A 50 mile long procession of caravans and Sunday drivers with intermittent speed cameras does wonders for your mpg.shooms wrote:Welcome aboard Tom - you'll love it... !Looks, performance, the 'x' factor - the Rocc has it all
