Speech Button just mutes the music
Hi All,
I have an RNS315 in mine with Bluetooth and im using a Nokia 1020
Everything works Bluetooth wise except when I press the speech button rather than starting the speech input feature it simply mutes the music, when I get a text message etc the phone asks if I want to read it etc and seems to work in all other ways except the button.
I contacted VW and they were useless, so I contacted the company that makes the RNS315 after check my chassis number he told me I have to press a button on the head unit or get the button mapped properly (they would do it but they are miles away). There is no on screen button for speech on my RNS315 I only have the steering wheel button?
Anyone had a similar issue?
Thanks
Ruz

Re: Speech Button just mutes the music
You can activate the function using VCDS... I know this is a vague answer, especially if you are new to VW. Vagcom/VCDS is a tool manufactured by ross-tech, that can be used to alter the coding of individual modules in your car.
I recently activated the speech button on mine, so I am sure it can be done on yours, as long as the RNS315 is compatible. Try and see if anyone near you has a cable, and they can help

Not sure if RNS315 supports voice control. The only unit I know that definitely does is the.RNS510

Wasn't sure of the compatibility (re: my original post). Thanks for clearing it up cuprabob

P.S: Mine is an RNS510, not a 315... To be honest, the speech button isn't that exciting anyway

The company that makes the units has confirmed it is possible with the RNS315 and offered to activate it but they are based in London http://www.satnavsystems.com/ should anyone else need this done that the link.Cuprabob wrote:Not sure if RNS315 supports voice control. VW CS have told me to go to the dealer but I suspect they will do nothing as usual
im in Cardiff and don't have VCDS, dimexi has previously offered to switch my headlights off using VCDS so I may have to take him up on that offer and visit Bristol
I am growing tired of not being able to control basic functions of my car, its really putting me off VW

O yeah!!!!!! I remember offering to help you, feels like Ages ago now.
Swing-by man, only about 30mins from you (except some weekends) - I live just off the M5. You can give me a list of what you want done, and we power through them! Cable is genuine, so no worries at all for you
.
P.S: I imagine the toll is putting you off that trip too
so we will have to make it worthwhile

Yeah that bloody toll! I am planning on taking you up on your offer - I guess in winter the lights were always on anyway, so it didn't bother me to much
I'll try come up with a list of things to make it worth while, any suggestions? also will this cause me any issues come service time and warranty etc?

Re: Speech Button just mutes the music
It shouldnt cause you any issues with service or warranty at all. The only thing that might happen is if you car has a software upgrade, it's possible that the VCDS settings get wiped off.. Don't know how often that happens.
VCDS changes are very easy to revert back.
VCDS mods are very subjective, check out my profile synopsis on the right for things I've done on mine... I took off the cornering lights recently, cos I didnt fancy them anymore.

Im Thinking
DRL/PRL off
Needle sweep
Alarm beep (Maybe)
Windows close via rain sensor
and the speech button

The best thing I've done on mine is the big speed display on the MFD. You first convert the alternative speed to mph by convincing it you're not in UK then add an option to display it full size. The analogue speedo is great for a quick glance but in todays 1mph over the limit kills fluffy animals and school children paranoia you need more than this if you're not going to potter along at 10mph under the limit.
Good summary of all the options here http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... 36&t=14999" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No worries. All can be done, needle sweep depends on your instrument cluster but let me know when you have timeRuzzy wrote:Im Thinking

Re: Speech Button just mutes the music
When is the best time for you dimexi? I can probably tell the misses we're going to the zoo or something and make a detour
I Might also go for the big speed display but I am obsessed with the mpg.......so maybe not
Whats the reverse mirror dip? is that tilting the wing mirrors down?
One last question will this enable options or to turn these off again must VCDS be used?

Re: Speech Button just mutes the music
Hey Ruzzy,
Perhaps sometime next weekend as I will be staying in Bristol for that weekend. I doubt it will take me very long, 30 minutes maybe.
Big speedo doesnt stop you having your MPG readings.
Reverse mirror dip can be activated in your MFD menus, and is only functional if you have auto folding mirrors.
To deactivate you will need VCDS again. Except the Alarm beep and Windows close - those will now have options in MFD when activated.

Re: Speech Button just mutes the music
My 14 plate RNS315 just does the same and mutes the music. It's a pain. Is there anyone with the skills near Herts /Essex boarder or along A414 corridor that can resolve this an activate the voice dialling?
Thanks
Thanks
