Which I did, they asked me for my driving licence when I applied for it that day, surly they should of asked for your dad's licence if applying for it in his name, surly it's one of the most important things to ask for on the day if applying for it in his name. Why will they not give you back your deposit either? I don't get it. What was the forms that they was sending you to fill in mate?
I was put in touch with the dealer by a third party broker, whose role is to find a dealer that is willing to give me the deal that I am after and then puts us in contact with eachother, at which point, the deposit is taken from my card by the dealer and all further correspondance is between myself and the dealer. I don't want to mention this company here, as they have fulfilled their part of the deal and I have no issue with them. There are many companies around that do this kind of thing and the one I used are one of, if not THE, most reputable.
This means that all correspondance between the dealer and I, has been over the phone....whereas you would have had the finance application done whilst you were there in person, I'd imagine...?
Basically, until the documents have been signed by my Dad, the only thing that has officially taken place and that has been consented to by my Dad, is a credit check, done via the dealer, to see if VWFS will finance the car for him. At no point have either my Dad or I so much as received any paperwork even resembling T&C's....let alone signed anything....and that's aside from the fact that they have tried to circumvent VW Financial Service's rules by applying to finance a car, for me, in someone else's name, just to get a sale.
So the seemingly minor technicality (my Dad not being able to finance the car due to not having a driving licence) that has put the brakes on this whole thing....as annoying as it initially was....has actually averted a potentially bad situation. If, after my Dad had signed the finance agreement, VWFS picked up on the fact that the car was actually financed in someone else's name, then who knows what kind of position my Dad and I could be in.
