Criminal damage
I went to drive to work this morning, but when I looked over to the left wing mirror, it's wasn't there. Some a-hole has yanked it off. And I found it on the pavement on the other side of the road all smashed up. Not a great start to the week

Re: Criminal damage
It's sickening to see what hooligans and criminals do. Looking at the picture it appears that the paint adjacent to the mirror appears to be scratched and dented. I would report it to the insurers just in case the cost mounts up to be a claimable amount. As I understand it, your no claim bonus should not be affected because if your car was parked in its usual overnight parking, it would be treated as an act of vandalism, for which you are/should be covered. Unfortunately, though, it seems that desirable cars attract the attention of the least desirable elements of society.A friend of mine parked his Rolls Royce overnight at our local yacht club while out on an overnight cruise. He returned the next morning to find that some mindless low life had pierced the bonnet and boot lid with a screwdriver(a total of more than 30 holes) and scratched obscenities on the driver's door. The sooner you get your Rocco fixed, the quicker you will be able to forget the incident.
Re: Criminal damage
Hi there, unfortunately I went to my car this morning and had almost the same problem. Thankfully I still have the wing mirror (currently being held on with gaffer tape which looks great!) and the electrics are all still working which is a bonus too.
Did you have any joy getting it fixed and how much did it cost?.
I'm looking at trying to replace it myself but don't know what the metal fixing/bracket is called to replace it and don't fancy paying the dealers charges for it. is there a haynes style manual for the Scirocco?
Great start to the new year!

Re: Criminal damage
Thanks for the advice on the insurer Essenwood. Didn't realise this. I actually got this sorted the next day but didn't go to insurer as I thought it would affect my no claims. I also haver quite a high excess.
Got it fixed at VW garage. I discovered that VW engineers charge about the same as a decent lawyer :-)
Took it in for inspection, ordered a passenger side wing mirror housing for next day delivery, which was about 150, and the installation, which took about 45 minutes, was 150. So 300 in total to get a new wing mirror fitted.
This does not include any touching up. I have received a quote for another 326 quid excluding VAT to get a new cap fitted and painted, and the scuffs on the side door and A-frame polished. This price also includes touching up a scratch on the rear bumper, which was discovered when I got the car serviced yesterday!
So the grand total to fix this mindless act of stupidity and possibly jealously is c.600 quid.

Re: Criminal damage
Same thing happened to me just two days ago. Some piece of crap decided to pull my driver side wing mirror the other way and broke it in the inside, cracking the plastic cover that joins it together.
Fortunately the actual wing mirror is fine and the cabling too. It still fits in but it also comes out easily.
Any idea how much to repair or whether it can be replaced and fixed DIY style easily?
Thanks

Re: Criminal damage
Does anyone have any info on the type of wing mirror break shown above? I've had the exact problem due to w*$#er's kicking it as they walked down the road. I need the same bracket replaced as is broken here. Does anyone have a part number for it?? Thanks!
