Hi guys, bit of a problem here. Recently when I start my car the rear washer comes on constantly for about 5 seconds, then if I go to use it on the front or back nothing happens. I can still operate the front wipers but not the rear.
Has anyone ever experienced something like this before?

Never heard of it myself, it's probably a setting in vagcom that could change it!

Re: Window Washer Malfunction
That really is an.odd one.
The rear wiper can.operate if the front wipers are on auto and you select reverse but the washer should not.operate in any vircumstance other than when operated manually.
Front and rear washer pump is the same pump just.operating in different directions.
Best get it checked out.

Re: Window Washer Malfunction
I came across something similar to this when i was fitting the cruise control stalks on another forum members car .
He'd bought a set of s/hand cruise stalks off ebay . After reassembly ,as soon as i re-connected the battery, and switched on the ignition - the rear washer went off constantly !! . No amount of coding in VCDS would alter it. He returned the stalks to the buyer and I refitted his original stalks problem cured. The replacement cruise stalks that were subsequently refitted worked without any problems too.
I'd certainly take a look at the stalk being the guilty party !

Re: Window Washer Malfunction
My car is factory fitted with the cruise control so I don't think that could be my issue. It's due a service so I might say it to them!

It doesn't matter whether you have factory fitted cruise or not - the point is , a faulty stalk assy could be your problem.niall wrote:My car is factory fitted with the cruise control so I don't think that could be my issue. It's due a service so I might say it to them!

Re: Window Washer Malfunction
That's odd as the cruise control is on a different stalk to the wipers although both do feed into the same control module, so possibly that is the culprit

Re: Window Washer Malfunction
Yes the cruise is on the left ,and the wiper / washer is on the right , but the 2010MY > are 'dual stalk' one piece assy's .
In any case - the fact that i was performing a 'cruise retrofit' really has no bearing - The point is i swapped 1 set of stalks for another and the weird permanent rear wash problem started. When the dodgy stalk set was removed and the original re-fitted - the problem went away . It was nothing to do with the fact that 1 set of stalks were the cruise type and the other set wasn't - that's incidental. I tried swapping the control module (slip ring) , but it made no difference. In my case - it was definitely the stalk set that caused the problem.
