VW Factory Bluetooth - 2011 model

Post by niall »

Hi guys, so I've been using my factory bluetooth kit along with my retrofitted RNS510 system for the last 7/8months and have had absolutely no problems with it. Until today unfortunately. I was playing my music through the Media player off my iPhone 5 (as I always do) and all of a sudden it just keeps start/stopping - very annoying. I've reset the car and phone serval times and still having the same problem. Has anyone else here experienced anything like this? Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Niall

I have this with my phone/RCD510 combo with bluetooth module. The problem was with the phone though and was very unique. Usually happened when I recorded a radio show on the tunein radio app; it doesn't so much stop, it just goes silent every 7 - 10 secs and cuts back in. Is this a similar probelm to yours?

Yea that seems to be the exact same thing. It's like as if I go too far out of the Bluetooth range!

I have to say - reading many posts here - playback of music via BT does seem to be rather 'fragile'..... the USB or SD card or hardrive route seems to be a lot more dependable.

Quite annoying - so handy playing it through the phone. Along with using toodles maps etc. If I don't find a solution here ill just say it to the lads in the dealership when I'm in next I guess!

I've heard of a few people who had to have the Bluetooth module in 2011 cars replaced under warranty due to issues with them, I'm one of them. Try to unplugging and then offing back in the cable from the module that's under the drivers seat. When I did that with mine it worked fine for a month or so but I got sick of doing that every other month and the dealer replaced it.

I just deleted all the paired devices (mine and my 2 brothers phones) and paired mine back up. Seems to be working fine now. My car was registered in June 2011 so it's now out of warranty unfortunately! Thanks for the help. Hopefully this will be a long term solution and not just a quick fix!!

I agree with Mark V!! Bluetooth is very fragile in the 'rocs - however, the phone side of it works really well. The streaming has a lot to be desired in my opinion.
I don't mind plugging my phone into the MDI console though, it really discourages me from reaching for it while I am driving :).

P.S: Niall - I never managed to fix the problem, all I do realise is that it only occurs with the tunein radio app and not my main music, so I hope things improve when I upgrade my phone (here's hoping)

Nial - I presume you are outside of UK with only two year warranty? Ireland perhaps?

If I try to fast forward a song when I use Spotify on my phone it will hang up and the phone just continues to fast forward and I can not do anything. I must then turn off spotify and reboot for it to work as usual.
So.. I can fast forward a song when I use the phone but when I try to do it through the steering wheel it just get stucked at fast forwarding.

Anyone with the same problem? The title's on the music was there when i used it true my iPhone 4 but when i tried with my other phone, Sony Xpera V, it just says unkown...

It's a 2011 with retrofitted OEM bluetooth.

Sorry only seeing this now. Yea I'm living in ireland, I think VW ireland now offer a 3 year warranty though. Such low spec cars this side of the pond, I waited months for mine to come up and even then I had to settle for no xenon lights!!

Hi guys,

I've just picked up my Roc... It has the 2011 bluetooth module but for the life of me when I stream music I can't find which menu (media) source it needs to be on in order for the music to come out... I know it's playing as I can't hear audio through the phone when it's connected to the bluetooth module. Making phone calls work as normal and come through the speakers.

My AUX does not seem to work either, even after activating it in the menu.

Thanks

I've got an RCD510 and if you.push the "Media" button and the BT Media is the most right hand tab. A phone needs to be paired with.it.for it to appear. By the way music doesn't come out the phine speakers if it's paired to allow A2DP streaming. Within the phone menu displayed on the MFD there is a symbol for media streaming. When paired mine displays, battery, phone symbol, media symbol, network, phone name.and signal strength. Sometimes when it pairs the media symbol isn't there and win't strean audio

With regards to the "Aux" something in my mind thinks it won't work if anything is plugged into the MDI such as USB / iPod. I'm not sure if it even works if a phone is paired over BT. Try it again with BT switched off and nothing plughed into MDI.

Thanks for the reply. My phone is connected via the VW Bluetooth phone kit and does not seem to have BT Media option on the unit when I press media. Even when I press phone on the RNS unit it just mutes audio rather than going into the phone. Therefore I don't think the unit has BT built in... A2DP is selected through the phone kit which has a separate mini touch screen which is positioned under my stereo next to v12 power point. I just can't figure what source I need to select in order to get audio through the speakers. It's definitely playing as the music controls through the touch kit change controls on my iPhone.

I still don't understand why the RNS 510 in my Roc does not have the BT option built in and why it connects through the VW touch phone kit.

I guess you have the BT Bluetooth kit with.the screen, which is the Bury kit. Not sure that integrates with the RCD/RNS510, MFSW and MFD but I may be wrong as I've no experience of this set up.

I have the factory fit BT with the module licated under tbe driver's seat and that integrates seamlessly with my RCD510, MFSW and MFD. When I push "Phine" button all the phone.info. appears on the screen.

I've only had it since Fri and it has to go back in on Tuesday for it's first MOT so i'll speak to the dealership then. A little annoying as I usually stream from spottily and have not been able to either from aux or bluetooth or get MDI to work on my iPhone 5.. (MDI sounds crackly and poor using my iPod - need to tell them to check that too). This is why I hate when dealerships pull the units out for security reasons... No way to check! The HDD and CD/DVD work well... Not tried the SD but I assume it will be all good. I've got the dynaudio system too and it sounds pretty damn good.

Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.

With.regards to the crackly.iPhone 5 audio via the MDI, try changing the input.level setting on the headunit. I've heard of it before and that seems to cure it.

MDI sounds perfect after turning the input level to low... Perfecto! Thanks. The dealer have told me that the BT streaming from the bury style devices have been disabled due to poor and unsatisfactory sound quality. Although it appears to stream the audio, output through the car speakers is disabled until a firmware update has been issued. The AUX issue I will discuss tomorrow and update here.
