DCC Durability

Post by Twiki »

This is an issue that I would like to get a better understanding. I was searching in the NET and no reference is done to DCC problems or reduced lifetime.
Since this is a recent system (the competition between different brands let us saw a lot of problems everytime a new system is developed and introduced) I thought that some complaints are already written. But I found nothing. Maybe this is a robust system!

I was several times in Germany. I never was in UK but I can say that Portugal is not the best place to have a Scirocco with 18¨. A lot of roads need maintenance and normaly no one is responsible for the damages caused by potholes and other problems.

We know that Scirocco is not a confortable car. Maybe because of that, time to time I feel a sharp impact when I was driven in some secondary roads. Normally I go again to the crime place and look how deep was the hole. And in most all the cases the impact is not corresponding to the real deep of the hole (normally not more than 3cm, although not round edges). When I drive another car in the same places, nothing is compared with this feeling.
And, everytime using DCC in Confort mode. This sharp impact could be related more with the 18¨wheels than the DCC system? How robust is DCC to support driven in not perfect roads?

I know that a lot of users already have a lot of miles in the car. Is it possible to get a feedback about the DCC system in terms of problems and robustness?
Thanks

I've not heard of any system failures, only Shock absorbers failing. I priced up a set of shocks from VW, an eye watering £600 for the set!!

But if there is any shock absorbers failure the system give us a warning signal (the control light is blinking). Right?

Yeah that's right. If the DCC control unit failed it would probably do the same

I must admit, I thought a set of DCC shocks from VW would be much more than £150 each.
