best to dissolve dirt and flies?
Hi All
Waht is the best product that you use to really clean your scirocco?
Is there a simple solution to use in order to get rid of bugs, tar etc? tried numerous bug removers and to me they dont seem to budge anything!

Re: best to dissolve dirt and flies?
The easiest way to make cleaning the car quicker & easier is to seal the paint with a wax or sealant first, so it is harder for the dirt, bugs, etc to 'stick' to the car and in turn, easier to get them off.
Some suggestions for products that I use to remove said contaminants are:
Auto Finesse Citrus Power http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-an ... d_949.html - This is a great citrus based pre-cleaner that helps cut through bugs, dirt & grime. I tend to use this or the Avalanche snow foam which is based on the same product; as a first step of the cleaning process, spray on, leave to work for 5-10 mins (agitate with a brush in tight areas such as around the grills, badges, etc) and blast off with a pressure washer.
IronX/Britemax Iron Max/AF Iron Out http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-an ... _1149.html are all good spray-on & rinse off Iron removers.
Autosmart Tardis/AF ObliTARate http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-an ... _1049.html are good tar removers. Spray on to any tar spots you see and leave for 5-10mins to start dissolving it. Then spray a little bit on an old MF cloth and you should be able to wipe the tar away.
Finally after the above steps you'll want to give the car a nice, warm wash with a good quality shampoo and lamswool mitt.

Totally agree with everything he said. Saved me writing it out.Jay Scott wrote:The easiest way to make cleaning the car quicker & easier is to seal the paint with a wax or sealant first, so it is harder for the dirt, bugs, etc to 'stick' to the car and in turn, easier to get them off.....

Re: best to dissolve dirt and flies?
Hi guys,
Firstly, thanks to Jay Scott for those links. I have now ordered a few products from that site.
My question is: when do you apply the citrus powder spray? Do I have to give it a prewash first?
My car is very very dirty, and I want to take care when cleaning it.
I have got some of that citrus powder, a good shampoo and lambwool sponge for cleaning. It's just going to be a basic clean, but I want to get all the dirt off

Re: best to dissolve dirt and flies?
Above advice and products are good but one thing was missed out. After you use the tar remover and Iron solvent there will be no protection left on your paint, you can think of it as naked. So to protect it and make dirt easier to remove next time you need to apply some wax or sealant. The Tardis and Iron X will remove everything.
Read about paint protection here. http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... ction.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Wax is a natural product that gives fantastic shine but it doesn't last very long. Synthetic sealants are not quiet as "shiny" as waxes but they tend to last much longer.

I think my car came with one of those paint protection things from the dealer (think it's called Superguard). Does the Tardis remove that protection as well? If it does, I might rethink its use

Re: best to dissolve dirt and flies?
Superguard is a synthetic paint sealant, Tardis is a solvent, it will strip it, it strips everything.
Something like Autoglym intensive tar remover will remove the tar (not as effectivly as Tardis) while still leaving the Superguard in place. You will have to rub the Autoglym stuff on to move the tar spots, Tardis is so strong that it just disolves everything without touching it. Thats why professional detailers use it so much, It really gets rid of organic contaminants very quickly and easily (Iron disolving stuff gets the inorganic contaminants) without the risk of damaging the paint through rubbing. The downside of course is that you must re-apply some protection afterwards (sealant or wax).

Re: best to dissolve dirt and flies?
Thanks for the info Paralla. I haven't bought the Tardis though, I did think it was quite strong when I read up the product description. I got the Auto Finesse Citrus Power instead, which the OP says is similar to snowfoam - so I am hoping it's not as strong as the Tardis

Re: best to dissolve dirt and flies?
Lol citrus power and tardis are 2 completely different products. Citrus power is a bug and grime remover. Also perfect as a pre wash just spray leave for 5 mins then blast off. Safe on trim , paint , wheels etc.
Tadis is a tar and glue remover which is solvent based as mentiond. This wont be safe on trim and also you dont want to leave this on your paint. I spray leave for 10 secs then wipe away.
Citrus power is also wax and sealent safe. Tardis will strip any kind of paint protection. So yes citrus power is very safe compared to tardis.

Also I havent done this yet but iv read you can use citrus power as a snowfoam. Id imagine it would just be like using auto finesse s snowfoam called avalanche

Re: best to dissolve dirt and flies?
Thanks for clearing that up WD - that's probably what paralla was getting at regarding the iron X + tardis. I didn't get that, definitely a bit too much for an amateur at this car cleaning business.
My cleaning products arrive today, and it's probably sad but I am looking forward to trying out the products. Put some shine back into my car

Its nothing to be sad about. I take pride in cleaning my car and keeping it in top condition. At 1st my family thought I was mad spending so much time on my car. Untill they see the after and couldnt stop commenting on how clean it is.dimexi wrote:Thanks for clearing that up WD - that's probably what paralla was getting at regarding the iron X + tardis.
