Ipad mini installation in Scirocco anyone?

Post by emmseegee »

Hi all,

I came across a video on youtube of some guy who had done an ipad mini installation on a scirocco and i think its reasonably common in other vehicles also.
Anyone know much about this?

I would admit to being quite an apple freak and would love to do this in my car but don't know how I could get certain things to work.

For example, How would I go about using the radio (without massive data charges by streaming internet radio) I could live without the radio but if i was ever gonna do this id be looking to gain functionality instead of lose it.

Also could i connect any sort of bluetooth receiver that would still allow me a handsfree function through my in car speakers?

I appreciate that there may be no answers on these questions and this kind of installation may not be to everyone's tastes but thought it may be worth a try.

I tried searching 'ipad' in the forums and all the results came up as 'sent from ipad' etc etc so apologies if there is any other threads related to this.

It really amazes me that apple haven't ever brought out a purpose built stereo. In car systems would improve drastically if they did.

If you are thinking to replace the existing stereo I think it's going to be tough to get any sort of Bluetooth integration happening. The Scirocco bluetooth module needs one of the OEM stereo's to function.

Adding an iPad mini in addition to the existing stereo might work though.

Here's an App that gets good reviews. You need a data connection though so either an iPad with celluar or a MiFi to connect a WiFi iPad to.

Maybe check the legality before going ahead as well. I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to have a screen that is capable of playing video in the front while the car is in motion.

It looks like he done a nice job of it…..
Ive got a kenwood stereo in mine, came with the car and I'm sure its a volkswagen optional extra but the user interface is rough as f**k and the options/features aren't too impressive.

Apple, in my opinion could run riot in the car stereo market as could samsung, HTC or whoever took the gamble first.

What about this Andrive. Lots of functionality of the ipad like touchscreen, satnav apps etc but plug and play replacement for the original head unit. Now also a DAB option.
