Mont Blanc Roof Racks

Post by j5-bond »

Hey All

Looking for a roof rack for the rocco and came across this make called Mont Blanc?

they have a few versions which sound as though they'll fit.

http://www.montblancgroup.com/en/roof-bars" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Has anyone got a set or know if there any good? i know the thule 754 and 1631 kit will work but i can get the mont blanc stuff cheaper.

cheers

I would never use those. Had the same make on my Scirocco, and they collapsed denting the roof. Costed me several thousand pounds to put right.....

Now that I have them assembled in the spare room I'm not sure about them. The entire weight of the bike carrier and bike is supported by two smallish bolts on either side of the bars. Couple that with the idiotic decision VW made to locate the lugs under the waterproof rubber AND the fact there are no lugs at the rear and you have a potentially disastrous situation waiting to happen. Thule no longer do a fitting kit for the scirroco. I wonder if that's due to lots of issues resulting from the stupid locating points. Why couldn't they just put them on the roof and let us secure them with bolts?? Mebbies I'm being negative here but I don't want to cause and accident or wreck my car. Wonder if the saris bones carrier would be better....

Norco thanks for your thoughts on those roof bars I was considering them myself...maybe not now. I'm not scheduled to receive my Rocc until April ish but I transport bikes a couple of times a week so the roof bar issue is bothering me, I asked Thule if there was anything in the pipeline from then and their reply was: 'Thank you for your email and your interest in Thule Products. We do not have a solution for the Scirocco. This was withdrawn soon after it was released due to complaints that it was too hard to fit. We have made the decision not to release a new kit for this car. I am sorry that we cannot be further help for you at this time.'

Yeah, I'd read that about Thule. Difficult to install seems an unlikley reason to discontinue them though. I suspect they are being elusive. Wish i could get a look at the VW kit. Cant see how VW's hugely expensive system can be any better. Really not sure what to do. Wondering if the sum of that parts that make up the kit, bars and carrier in someway add to the strength and rigidity. Keeping it under 60mph and not hammering corners might mean you never get a problem.........

Thanks, if you can do that it will be much appreciated. Agreed with what you say about VW's own system either very good or very well patented if Thule can't get anywhere near it with their expertise.

I'm no engineer but that bolt looks a bit weedy considering the job it has to do.

Yup, thats my worry mate. Could be the sum of all the parts actually means its pretty solid but...... And what kind of steel is that bolt made from????? Could be a cheap alloy, could be high quality carbon steel....

I've not actually read a review that says they are not good to be fair. They might just be adequate used under the corerct load etc. JUst dont go hairing round corners at speed. Gonna try and get mine on a the weekend and I'll try to capture as much on video.
