Lost Key

Post by wikey »

Afternoon,

I thought I would ask for some advice as I have lost one of my keys for my VW Scirocco 2011 model and wondered how it was best to get a replacement?

I have asked VW but they are charging £176 which is a lot of money for a key.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

I assume that is the cost including coding to match the car, wouldn't just want to walk in and pick up a key that could drive my car away without some sort of syncing to the car occuring.

Yes this is the cost for the key and coding.

You may not have a lot of choice mate I'm afraid other than paying the dealer price, which is extortionate. There are probably cheaper ways of doing this through other 3rd parties, but not sure I could trust them.

You could try the below if you can get a unprogrammed fob.
The blank fob with security chip is over £100, however without the security chip about £6. You'll also need to get the switch blade laser cut to match your existing blade.

Just remember to get the lost key removed from the car to stop it working just incase it turns up in the wrong hands.

Where are you based Paul, I lost a keyfob and a guy based in Manchester made me a new one, programmed it up and removed the lost key from the car computer so if someone found it it would be useless to start the car. All for about £130 if you go to him. Mine is a 2011 car

Dealer fees are expensive. If you can find a craftsman who can program the car, you will save a lot of money. A blank FOB and a small amount of programming cost can make a new key. To prevent the same thing from happening again, you'd better prepare two keys and install a small wallet tracker to find them easily.
