40k servicing.
40k servicing.
I'm coming up to 40k on my 2011 gt tdi 140.
Can anyone give me an idea of the servicing costs at 40k and also the cost of the DSG service?
Also is there any actual difference between this 40k service and the previous 3?
Thanks

Re: 40k servicing.
A 40k service should just be an Oil Change, as 30k is the Inspection.
DSG Service is £179.99 at my dealer, and Oil Change is either £129, or £149.
Every 3 years the Major Service (Inspection) is carried out.

Re: 40k servicing.
I've just had a look in my service book and the 3rd service is ticked as an inspection service. However this was at just over 20k ( the car had been serviced once prior to me getting it).AaronMc wrote:A 40k service should just be an Oil Change, as 30k is the Inspection.

My last service (the 4th) was at 29k and wasn't an inspection service. So would this next one (40k) be an inspection or as you said just an oil change?
Also last time it was in for a service I asked to be put on the long life service schedule, I thought this was every 18,000 miles but VW have sent me a letter telling me I'm due a service.

Re: 40k servicing.
Fuel filter also gets changed.at 40 k miles on the diesels
Also garages send our letters every year on the off vhance. You can check on the car's service interval counter when it's due it's next service.
On newer cars it's a menu within the MFD and on older cars you press and hold the trip reset and it pops up with miles/time to service.

Re: 40k servicing.
Regarding the inspection service, do they actually change the oil/filter as routine? The service book seems to indicate that oil/filter are not part of an inspection service.
However - recently when I took our Polo GTI down for an inspection service (3rd), I insisted that the oil and filter must be replaced and they said that it is done anyway. Sure enough it does look like they replaced oil.

Re: 40k servicing.
Every service gets an oil and filter change
Not got my book handy but I'm pretty sure Inspection service refers to an oil change service and then lists the additional items.

Re: 40k servicing.
Thanks for the clarification on that one Bob!
Re: 40k servicing.
The display on the MFD never seems to have been reset if I remember correctly. I'll have a look in the morning. They've annotated in my service book that my next service is due at the mileage I'm at now, however that's contradicting the long life service schedule they told me they'd put it on?Cuprabob wrote:Fuel filter also gets changed.at 40 k miles on the diesels

At VW it goes - Oil Service, interval service, inspection service. As a 3 year cycle..

IIRC, the first Inspection is at 3 years but the subsequent ones are every 2 years. It coincides with the brake fluid change.AaronMc wrote:At VW it goes - Oil Service, interval service, inspection service. As a 3 year cycle..

Re: 40k servicing.
Sounds as if they put it on T&D regime. Easy to to check if it's been 13 months or 9,300 miles since it was last serviced. To be honest, I prefer T&D over Longlife. The latter really is just to keep the costs down for fleet purchases.Red201 wrote:The display on the MFD never seems to have been reset if I remember correctly. I'll have a look in the morning. Re: 40k servicing.
I've just spoke to the stealers and the girl on the reception reckons at 40k, it requires a major service? This is £289!
What's actually done on a major service?
I know it needs a DSG service regardless and it's getting booked in for Jan, I just don't want spanking for nearly 300 quid for something it doesn't need at this point!

Re: 40k servicing.
The only additional thing that is replaced on the diesel is the fuel filter. Sounds as if if she has just quoted the fixed price major service which I believe alsi includes an air filter, despite it not being scheduled until 60k miles.
There aren't really too many things to change on the diesels during servicing;
Oil - every 10k or 12mth
Oil filter - every 10k or 12 mth
Pollen filter - every 20k or 24mtb
Air Filter - every 60k or 60mth
Fuel Filter - every 40k or 48mth
Brake Fluid - 36mth and then every.24mth
DSG Oil and filter - every 40k

Re: 40k servicing.
Do you reckon it's worth having the major or just getting an oil change service done?

I would just get the major service done as the fuel filter is due a change and it does no harm having the air filter changed early.Red201 wrote:Do you reckon it's worth having the major or just getting an oil change service done?

Re: 40k servicing.
Thinking about it, rather than paying £289 for the major service it would make more sense to buy the VW Service Plan at £379 which covers one major and one minor service plus 2 MOTs.

Does this price include the brake fluid change as the VW website does not make this clear?

Re: 40k servicing.
Thanks. Local dealer charges £59 so that is seem about right. They wanted to charge me £517 (instead of the VW £439) for two years servicing, MOTs and one brake fluid change and have to go to them and that is after buying two new cars from them in the last 3 years!!! Bit of a con so might look for a different dealer.

Re: 40k servicing.
should consider VAG specialists as opposed to a dealer. My last service worked out cheaper. Can't remember how much but was much less.
