tips on buying used Scirocco R

Post by Jeffrident »

Hi all,

I'm in the process of buying a used Scirocco R, this one: http://www.wokinghamcarcentre.co.uk/use ... 0229395238.
I have a couple of practical questions though. I just moved to the UK from Belgium, so not really sure if this dealer is 100% reliable.

I went to see the vehicle this weekend. It looks perfectly fine, but the dealer had none of the documents (V5C, MOT, manual, service history, ...).
He agreed to MOT it before I pick it up and register the car for me so I get a new V5 log book. He will also get me a new service book and get it stamped up (he was able to track down the service history via VW). He said he can get it taxed for me, just needs an insurance certificate.

This whole lacking of documents sounds a bit dodgy to me. Any advice?

Cheers,

Jeffrey

Well, to be honest I wouldn't touch a car that doesn't have the V5 :/

Yes - I agree with Cuprabob, I would walk away if there are no documents. I am surprised the garage bought it into stock without docs.

Seems like there is something to hide - avoid!

Did he not give any reason why it had no docs, Is it as simple as they are with the DVLA currently?

It might have had a lot of previous owners and thats why he's not showing you the V5.

If you are keen I'd insist on seeing the V5 before you agree a price. There is no way he would have bought it or accepted it as a trade without the V5 so something fishy is going on.

As there is a pouch in the glovebox for the manual I don't understand how or why it could have been lost. The MOT from earlier this year should be in date based on first reg April 2010.

The documents weren't there because of "complications". Decided to back out and go for a VW approved used.

Thanks for the replies ;) .

Good decision - never heard such nonsence from a car dealer - shockingly lacking paperwork!
