Safeguard?

Post by Maxcheesmar »

Is it worth getting the safeguard paint / interior protection from the dealer? I have also heard other dealers do an autoglym life shine......

Any advice?

Nope waste of money. Get it detailed or detail it yourself. Works out cheaper and will be a better job.

Some of the dealers really push these products - I assume there is a commission for the salesman and maybe even more profit to be made than on some used car deals.
The interior protection they offered me was basically an insurance policy - I'm not convinced they were going to apply anything to the car!

Well I know that the lifeshine protection they offer is just an autoglym kit worth less than £50 and they charge £300

My dealer offered me the 'lifeshine protection system' for £450 !

My old vw bora was lucky if it ever saw the shiney side of a sponge , so i was a bit lacking in car cleaning products on my garage shelf  .

I bought the dealer kit ( the bit they actually apply to the car) off ebay for £12 - like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Autoglym-Life ... 2a3474f193 and applied it myself

I also bought the fancy VW Autoglym kit bag off ebay of just £30 - full of goodies ( the auction ended at 3am on a wednesday - so i just set up a snipe bid !) - just like this one
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Autoglym-VW-L ... 2a3437741f

I like the bag , and for what i paid for it , you couldn't buy the individual items for that price. I like autoglym stuff having used it on my custom bikes , and saw it as a bloody good 'starter kit' for the rocco . That , and the fact that i'm a bit of a tart and i liked the VW logo'd bag to keep it all in

If your not into doing it youreself, take it to a proper detailer for a New Car Protection. Will cost the same, or less, and will have a proper days worth of treatment.

Good advice here - never take any paint protection or treatment from a dealer. Find a reputable detailer if you really want this - they will give you personal attention and spend the appropriate amount of time needed to achieve the results you want. In many cases its cheaper too!
