2.0 210 TSI Turbo Sound?

Hi, im looking at buying a 2010 210 TSI. Ive already test drove a 2009 200 TSI but this one sounded alot different. Mainly that when I put my foot down it made a whirling noise, almost like a supercharger. Is this normal on the 210 as I didnt hear anything like this on the 200 TSI. Thanks for your help Dean

Hello,

No - that does not sound right. The 200PS and 210PS are mechanically identical and should sound similar. Can't think what this whirling noise is, other than the turbo - which could be suspect.

I hear a little bit of whisper on mine sometimes too.

God knows how much they may be to replace, but the engine doesn't feel a problem.

Touch wood I guess. I don't know what a supercharger's whirling noise sounds like!

It's hard to tell without being able to hear the volume of it. I haven't noticed a whirling on mine - just an occasional 'raspiness' from the exhaust on heavy acceleration, which is normal. Do you know whether the car you tried had covered a lot of miles or had a hard life? Do you have a particular reason for wanting a 2010 car?

My 210 just has a feint whistle from the turbo which I notice every now and again. This "whirring", it's not a sort of "rattle" is it? Could be the infamous wastegate actuator rattle.
