Slipping Clutch?!

Post by CBScotland »

Hi been driving my new DSG petrol scirocco gts for a month now and it's done around 600 miles

My friends have said when I accelerate hard they can smell clutch in their car behind
(I can't smell anything in my car)

One of them thinks its a slipping clutch?

Does this sound like something that will sort itself out or should I tell VW?

Thanks

Which engine do you have?

I have a DSG7 on a 1.4 160. Had the clutch refitted with 30k miles. Now it has 50k and it's already slipping. And I am being much less aggressive with it.

It doesn't, and has never, smelled bad, though.

Does it "feel" as though it's slipping?

Are you sure it's not their car that smells? :p

If they smell a burning clutch, you will be able to notice it slipping if it's that bad (in my opinion).

Any chance you've got a sticky rear piston? Would give a similar smell to clutch plate....

Car has only done 600 miles, so the smell could be the coating coming off the exhaust which you always get with a brand new car.

Thanks for your answers guys.

Yeah I have the 2.0 DSG7

I have been told it from 2 separate drivers so its deffinetly my car.

Hopefully it will sort itself as it is run in

If not I'll give VW a call

Hold in.a high gear using manual mode and if the revs increase and your speed doesn't then the clutch is slipping. As tbe DSG has 2 clutches you'll need to do it twice, once in an even gear and once in an odd gear to find out which one, if any are slipping.

It's a DSG6 ;)

In the DSG7 case you feel the car vibrating in low revs in second gear.
