Unidentified object found during service?!

Post by Nighthawk »

Hi guys

Just got back from having the Roc R serviced at VW sheffield dealership (2nd service, 20,000 miles) today.

The mechanics have found an unknown item/part in the coolant tank- and have removed it as they said it should not have been there. They asked me if I had modified any part of the vehicle (I have not, they car has been owned by me from new and has only been in the dealership twice for its services).

Does anyone know what this part is, and should it have been removed from the car? The dealers seemed to think it was a mystery- they have suggested that if any members have this part on/in their cars, I should put mine back!! I'm worried now!

Any help you guys can offer would be really appreciated.

thanks, simon

I'm no expert but it looks like some sort of filter, sounds like it has been in there since new - although I very much doubt it has done any harm in there.

Any sign of a part number on it?

That was my first guess as well, some sort of filter.

Housed within the mesh are lots of crystals/beads- kind of like silica, for removing moisture. But can't see why that would be in the coolant tank?

The numbers/letters on it are
4EQTZTT76

And another alphanumeric word that has partly melted? Strange.

it must be something to filter dirt from entering the coolant system.

it reminds me of a plastic filter you put inside a paint spraygun, to prevent dirt from contaminating the paint prior it leaving the gun.

That looks like the filter in the screen wash tank, well a smaller version.

Would you guys put it back in?! Or leave it out?

Has anyone got a similar object in their coolant tanks?

Strange - does this thing (filter?) just sit loose in the tank? Assume it must do as it is clearly part of the car if there were to be a securing mount/fixing for it.

You could ask the guy at VW parts counter to try the number in the system and see what he finds?

They actually tried this, and they said they couldn't find a match? :? They literally had all the guys looking at it and scratching their heads!

Yeah apparently it was loose in the tank just rolling about! Still haven't put it back in yet!
