Buying a used scirocco

Hi
I'm thinking about buying a scirocco
Really can't decide what engine to go with. The car will be doing quite a few short journeys. I'm a bit worried about the 1.4 tsi engine problems I've been reading about. The only thing putting me of a diesel is the dpf.

Diesel will be ok if you give it a regular blast down the motorway

Thanks for the reply. I don't get the chance to drive down motorways very often, I'm always stuck at work.
How do the diesels cope with town driving, Just worried about blocking up the dpf

If the car only gets driven around town then there is a high risk you will have DFF issues, although I haven't heard of many people having DPF issues recently other than faulty pressure sensors. Probably not worth the risk.

Any ideas if vw sorted the 1.4 tsi engines

I have. 1.4 160 and in the process of having my engine replaced. I wouldnt let this put you off. It only happens to a small number and from my research this is only a common problem in the older models. 160 version is fun, i have this due to my young age/ insurance reasons but greatly recommend!

I do mainly town driving. 5 miles to work and 5 miles back. The odd blast at the weekend . Mainly town driving though and I havent had any problems.

The 1.4 160bhp would of been my first choice if I hadn't started to read in to problems. How many miles has your car done / how old is your car. Are vw replacing it for free. It does sound a fun engine

Whitedevil_170. Sounds like that's the sort of runs it would do if I had one. Maybe a few less miles to my work but I could go the long way round Good to know you haven't had any problems.

160 is great, petrols ok aswell if you drive carefuly, goodluck with that tho. 59 plate 25k miles. Vw paying 100% for engine and most of the labour. I have to pay about £300 and i get 2yr warrenty. I wasnt happy this happened but cant complain really.

Not forgetting this only happens on such a small number of rocs. Its easy to find loads of problems on the internet since everyone will complain about it however not many will just comment on how well they run if that makes sence

I honestly believe buying any car is a gamble! I would personally recommend the 1.4 160. In love with mine.

Dealers never admit to faults (or very rarely). We also run a Polo GTI with the 1.4TSI (180PS) engine and that did have issues with oil consumption, so much so that eventually VW replaced the engine under warranty. I am happy now with the replacement engine, but these problems only affected the 180PS unit (NOT the 160PS in the Scirocco). I would not be put off a 1.4 so long as it has been looked after and maintained properly.
