Suggested gear on manual TSI

Post by RoccoTom »

I drive a 13-plate 2.0 TSI with manual gearbox and have found the suggested gear display to be rather over-eager when accelerating. It suggests moving up to third gear at about 18mph, 4th gear at about 26mph, 5th gear at about 35mph and 6th around 44mph. This is under normal, gentle acceleration.

I know the aim of the suggested gear is economic usage of fuel, but I always find myself preferring to change up a little later, once the revs of the engine suit it better. Does anyone else find the same?

Thanks
Tom

I find it infuriating, researched methods to get it removed - found none :grumpy:

Ah, interesting - I'll try that myself and see. I only rarely use 'sport' and 'comfort' modes so I've not particularly noticed.

I read it comes as an update on the car's firmware.

If you take your's into the dealers, they should be able to sort it out

Correct. It appeared on mine right after a service one time.
These gear suggestions are aimed at obtaining maximum economy rather than fun driving and they take no account of any gradient you might be climbing or the 4 people and full boot you might be carrying. View it as optimistic guidance and nothing more.
