Red lights above mirror

Red lights above mirror
I just noticed the two little red lights above the mirror shining down. Couldn't find any reference on here by searching, and I just have to know... what are they for?!?

They just shine down on the gearstick area and serve no purpose other than to provide ambience lighting

It's a throw back to the war when the Germans spent a lot of time in Submarines :-)
