Manufacturers warranty ending / 1st MOT
My car is almost 3 years old, meaning that the 3 year manufacturers warranty will come to an end and the car will require its first MOT.
My question is; Are there any checks I should make before the warranty ends?
Just incase any other Scirocco owners have found any problems or something they wished they had pointed out while their car was still under warranty!
Thanks.

My coolant pump was broken. It was replaced under the extra years warranty I got them to throw in when I brought.

If you have access to vagcom it is worth doing a scan as I was shocked to find that dealers do not do a scan as a routine at services unless you pay for one at about £60 a throw!!

Ok thanks Ryy. I'm shocked to hear that too salsajoe! I thought surely the first thing that would happen on the service is that it's plugged into the computer? I don't actually have access to vagcom unfortunately
. Although its something that interests me. But just to play with settings. I understand the official software and cable is expensive. Although I've seen some cheaper options on eBay and mentioned on the forum, will these work?

Some cables work and some dont. But 300€ for a real cable and software isnt that much!
Take a fee, like 20€ for each scan for your friends and you will soon have the items for free

Re: Manufacturers warranty ending / 1st MOT
if there's not much of a time difference between end of warranty, and MOT, is it possible, as you can do in Republic of Ireland, to bring the car in for MOT earlier than it's due, therefore, any problems may become the problem of VW, instead of yours??
downside is, you may possibly be due the MOT a little earlier each year, etc. could be worth it though.

Re: Manufacturers warranty ending / 1st MOT
You can get the car MOT'd upto 30 days prior without affecting the renewal date. I done this on my previous car for the.first MOT. I just had to show the garage the V5 to get the 13 month MOT. I understand now you don't need to show V5 or previous MOT to get.13 month MOT.
Re: Manufacturers warranty ending / 1st MOT
Basically, for peace of mind and a fall back, you really have to get your MOT done with the warranty still 'live'!

Ok thanks for your advice.
What Cuprabob says backs up correctly what my dad thought.
I will book the car in for about 2 weeks before its actually due.

I have booked my MOT today for 2 &1/2 weeks before it is due and the warranty expires. This will give plenty of time if there are any problems. I don't think there is anything wrong with the car though. Thanks.

Just so you are aware, as long as any fault is identified and recorded within the warranty period it can be fixed after the warranty expires.

Re: Manufacturers warranty ending / 1st MOT
Sorry for hijacking this thread - I hope someone sees my query as the forum has been quiet of late. I was in two minds about starting my own thread, but I didn't wanna get told off, so I will see how this goes.
Here it goes:
I have a MY2010 scirocco 2.0l TSi. It was built in 04/2010 (I suppose that's between week 13 and 16).
My warranty has expired: I was looking into renewing it when it was due, but I just got so busy at that time.
At that point, I was quoted £320 (circa) for comprehensive and no excess, excluding breakdown. I thought this was fantastic but unfortunately didn't take it at the point and let it slide.
I now called today to try and pick up where I left - unfortunately it's not that simple. I'm now being quoted almost £500 because they are having to post date the policy, and all the other premiums have sky rocketed with £100 being added to the initial price.
It was too expensive and I told the guy ill think about it.
My roc is in tip top condition, no vcds scan errors and the bodywork is in good nick.
However, I get worried when I come on here and see ppl having problems with coil packs and especially the timing chain tensioner!
I've heard those problems only exist on certain engines, but I don't know if mine will be affected.
What I want to know is that - for 2.0 manual box TSi drivers: how many of you have had critical engine problems? What was your build year/week?
I'm thinking of not extending my warranty 'cos it's so expensive, but I want to gauge how many ppl have had problems so I can see how big my risk taking is.
Thanks guys

One thing about the internet and forums in particular is that they can blow issues out of proportion, so bear that in mind.dimexi wrote:Sorry for hijacking this thread - I hope someone sees my query as the forum has been quiet of late. Also, if you have your car serviced by VW and you have a serious issue outwith warranty, there is a good chance you will receive a level of goodwill.
Put the money you would have spent on the warranty into the bank as insurance, in case you get any issues.

Brilliant advice cuprabob (as always). I'll definitely keep it in mind, not a bad idea putting the money aside either.
All services have been with VW, so that'll def help

Re: Manufacturers warranty ending / 1st MOT
Just a quick note to say that my car has been for its MOT and passed.
Only thing was 1 advisory which that the front brakes were inbalanced.
They meet the pass criteria but are close to the pass figure. No work has been done on the car, they wanted £45 just to strip and clean them!
I will have a look myself later this week.
Also on the advice of some other users I went ahead and bought a VCDS cable. Good purchase! Auto-scan showed there were no faults prior to the MOT. I've now just started to play with a few settings
