Hi, I have purchased a 2.0 140 bmt and there has been a delay my end whilst I sold my car privately instead of p/x.
I started the car up on the forecourt recently and it sounded very noisy but the dealer said something about diesel build up as car just been sitting there since I put deposit down a month ago. The car has only 8k miles and is 8 months old.
I have never had a diesel before, can someone explain what has happened and will a nice long drive when I pick it up sort things out?...also I noticed when revving the engine stationery it only went to 4k revs...again is that normal for this engine as car drove great during the test drive so just double checking these issues are nothing to worry about
Diesel build up?

Not sure on the 1st part. What was noisy the engine? Is it louder than when you first test drove it. It's not that quite when running anyway being a diesel. But the question regarding revving whilst stationary. Yes that's normal it doesn't go above that whilst you are stationary. I'm sure mine goes to 3000 rpm and that's it.

Re: Diesel build up?
Just to follow up what whiteDevil_170 said, I also don't think it sounds normal to be noisy on start-up, it will never be like a petrol engine car but the latest VW diesels are some of the least diesel sounding engines on the market, never heard of anything about diesel build up causing trouble either, no worries though on the revs only going to 4000rpm while stationary, mine actually only goes to 2500rpm
Re: Diesel build up?
Thanks for replys, I had the window down and it was just the engine rumble before revving was noisier than I remember during the test drive BUT on the test drive the window was up and dealer drove first minute away from dealership so may just be that....I am sure someone told me they have had a coupe of times when smoke came from their exhaust of their diesel that was just due to build up and it was just clearing it out....they didn't say it caused any harm to the car.
One of the reasons I went for the bm over the 1.4 was because of better torque and I actually thought the diesel sounded better as the 1.4 seemed abit under powered and ratios meant i was constantly changing gear but that's just my opinion as anyone buying a scirocco clearly has great taste

Sounds fine then. Wouldn't worry to much. As said I haven't heard of diesel build up.
That's the dpf clearing out. The 170 tdi sounds amazing when your accelerating. But that would be down to the soundaktor.TC01 wrote:.I am sure someone told me they have had a coupe of times when smoke came from their exhaust of their diesel that was just due to build up and it was just clearing it out....they didn't say it caused any harm to the car.

Re: Diesel build up?
Diesels work at their best when they are up to temperature, so yes it may sound a little noisier when cold! The diesel lubricates parts of the fuel system so when warm it will be thinner and flowing better. The DPF will regen when the car is up to temp the throttle has been at constant position (i.e. motorway) and can be as little as 40% of capacity, so its unlikely that the black sooty smoke would be the DPF? Its most likely to be the deposits from the exhaust system blowing through.
The new 150bhp engines are even noisier, than the 140/170 fitted to the scirocco.
Thanks Nick
