RNS510 with Composition Media interface?

Post by Sehested »

Yesterday i saw the new Golf 7 with the Composition Media interface. This interface looks a lot more sleek than the interface on the RNS510 :yummy: My thought was if it would be possible in any way to mod the firmware of the RNS510 to get a new interface ala the Composition Media. Offcourse there are some functions like setup of the car and so on that will be imposible to implement since the hardware is not present the older cars, but I was thinking about the radio interface, media interface, telephone and so on.

I know that it is possible to mod the firmware with language but offcourse this is easy since you "just" have to translate all the text of a language you dont use the the one that you wish to have instead, but i dont know if it would be possible to change the interface setup. You have the same navigation methods on the Composition Media as an RNS510 (touch screen and the buttons are the same). There will offcourse be some other hardware in the Composition Media but shouldnt the RNS510 be able to run an interface like the Composition Media with the hardware it got?

I dont know if the Composition Media runs a completly different programming language, if it has some different chips, but my thought was that you might could grab some interface coding from the Composition Media firmware and splice it with the RNS510 firmware. Any one have any insight in this? or am im completly crazy

Can you write in either C++ or Cocoa? If yes you can create your own image and flash it to the NAND of the RNS using a JTAG kit.

If not, I wouldn't hope on someone making a custom firmware anytime soon...

I know a bit about C++ and VBA, but not enough to make a job like this. I was just thinking if it would be possible when they now have made a sleek new interface for the new range of radio/navigation units, and maybe there was some other members here might like the same idea a group of people could work something out.

I havent been able to find a firmware for the new radio/navigation line from VW so im not sure that they even exits on the internet yet. My thought was just that the buttons etc of the new unit was very similar to the RNS510 so maybe it would be possible to get the same kind of interface if we had the firmware for the new units.

Im sure it would be a very big job, but with all the RNS510 units out there there would be a lot of users who could be interested in an updated interface which looks like the new units from VW.
