European headlights...
I've recently ordered a Scirocco GT TDi 170. It's being built at the VW factory in Germany then i'm picking it up at the London VW factory in October. I'm currently living in Germany therefore needing European headlights but was wondering if the Sciroccos headlights are able to switch over or do i need to purchase some separate European specific headlights?
Thanks, Gaz.
Thanks, Gaz.
Re: European headlights...
Hi Gaz
This would need to be specified on your order as the headlights for left and right hand driving are completely different part numbers iirc.
also london VW factory? I presume you mean a dealer located in/around london
if you are in the army/forces (just reading into the living in Germany bit) and ordering through them then I would have thought it was factored into the order but needs to be checked

Have you ordered Xenons? If so It's simply a case of your dealer "flicking a switch for you".

Re: European headlights...
Must be a London dealership yeah. They said they'd inform me when it's ready from where i pick it up from but they said it was somewhere in London.
I am in the forces yeah and when i ordered it they failed to mention anything about European headlights aswell as myself forgetting to ask. Although i've gone through a forces car company.
I'll have to ring up tomorrow and check.
Also, are you able to add on certain aftermarket accessories such as the Sat Nav system with the 6 disc changer with the dynaudio system after the purchase. As i've gone through a forces discount company i wasn't able to get these for some reason.

yes you can source and retrofit the satnav (RNS510) there are plenty of threads on here about it, when you want the RNS510 with the 6 CD multichanger, the multichanger fits in the armrest. I believe it can be retrofitted but would be difficult and expensive (assuming it can be done) but would take the place of the media dock/mdi connection which is in the armrest when you have the RCD510 (standard radio) with the RCD510 the multichanger is in the headunit, in the RNS510 the satnav takes up this space so you have to choose between the CD multichanger or the MDI connection.GAZARE wrote:Also, are you able to add on certain aftermarket accessories such as the Sat Nav system with the 6 disc changer with the dynaudio system after the purchase. most people have found the MDI is much more useful than the CD multichanger as it means you can use the VW ipod cable and connect in your ipod to listen to (holds much more music than a CD) or the VW USB cable to connect a USB stick full of music (again holds much more music than a CD)

Re: European headlights...
Hey mate,
I had the same issue as you (BFG headlights are a pain in the a$$)
I contacted the dealer a couple of weeks after my order and if you purchase european standard lights from them, they are able to fit and adjust them for you. Its not cheap (about 800euro) but on the plus side, they say my UK pair will be in the boot for when i wish to sell the car or just the Euro headlights .
This is the only option i have come across so far,
Hope it helps

Have you tried the VW Scirocco Accessories brochure?GAZARE wrote:Yeah they've just said they're £750 for the pair. Deary me. I've looked all over the net and can't find any anywhere so i'm guna have to pay it.
They sell European headlight adapters. They are disposable but just stick on the headlamps and peel off i think.
Darn sight cheaper than a new pair of headlights ...depending on how often you're back and forth.

Re: European headlights...
May be a thought...... German Ebay Headlight search
The only thing you will need to watch is that there are two halogen headlight sets listed for each Scirocco in LHD & RHD. MY2009 (August 2008 - April 2009) and MY2009 onwards (May 2009 onwards).
Fitting isn't too difficult.

Re: European headlights...
I have just seen these on eBay. They look fine. http://www.ebay.de/itm/VW-Volkswagen-Or ... 1c3485ac62" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I may be moving to mainland Europe later this year and would have to convert the headlights for use there. Would changing this section of the headlight be all that I need to do?

Re: European headlights...
So what should do - I'm leaving the UK early in the morning so will need my lights on to take a 5am Eurotunnel to France and then will be driving down to the South - it should be daylight on the way down but once down there should I just call into a VW garage in France and ask them to change them over (and then again as I head back to the UK?) Do they charge you for this? Will those sticky things on your headlights work on Xenon lights?)Evil Derboy wrote:Have you ordered Xenons? If so It's simply a case of your dealer "flicking a switch for you".

I never understand why this isn't just a setting on Xenon's that can be selected from the menu

Re: European headlights...
if you have xenons there is an option on the mfd for lights and you tick travel mode, which adjusts the lights, they stay in travel mode until you select, when in travel mode when you start the car get a warning light to show they are selected, got this on both of my VWs

Can't find it in my menu settings. Wonder if its a firmware update or something (although the car is nay just 6 months ok).

Re: European headlights...
I took a trip via Eurotunnel last weekend, while waiting for the train you are all parked and queued up into lines of cars to get on the train, I got out of my Roc and had a look around, I could not see one UK registered car which had the little sticky headlight adjusters, this was on the Calais side.
Re: European headlights...
Maybe they had taken them off already as they were about to get on the train back to the UK?pzboyz wrote:I took a trip via Eurotunnel last weekend, while waiting for the train you are all parked and queued up into lines of cars to get on the train, I got out of my Roc and had a look around, I could not see one UK registered car which had the little sticky headlight adjusters, this was on the Calais side.
Apparently, on the Roc you have to go to the dealers and have them make the change which seems just stupid, especially as they charge you £50 a time to do it - I might just not bother.
I'm driving in the daytime whilst over there and can put my DRL's on when dusk approaches although I'm hoping to have arrived at my villa well before nightfall - I'm not planning on using the car once down there in the evening so think I will just leave it.
