As long as the system is working OK and the air is cold enough, I don't tend to bother.
I use the Air Con all the year round so don't tend to have any issues with the likes of seals drying up or bacteria build up, that can happen if it's used infrequently.

Don't usually bother either. Stealers often do a 'package' when brake fluid (at three years and then every two years) is due for a change that makes it cheaper if you want it checked.
Only just came across this thread. My car was in for its MOT last weekend, and I was asked if I wanted a £85 aircon service...... I obviously said no! I have decided I will take it to kwikfit, who do it for less than that! But might insist that they use VW service items when they do it.
@salsajoe - I was getting my brake fluid done as well, but didnt get offered the package... Except if 85£ was at a reduced cost for the aircon!
Yeah it's due the brake fluid also.I've been quoted £118 for the two done together. Tempted to just get the brake fluid done at £59 if you guys suggest the air con isn't needed. It's pretty much on constantly to be honest.

As far as I'm aware there are no service items within the air con system.

My brake fluid change was 59£ too - that means they are offering the AC service at 59£, £26 less than I was quoted. I did hear kwitfit do it at £49 though .
As everyone else is saying, I would not bother, as long as the system is still working fine.
@cuprabob - don't they have to top fluids up etc etc
Thanks Cuprabob. That's made my mind up for me - just wanted to be sure that if anything went wrong, VW wont refuse to repair due to nonVW "service items" being used.
I will be taking it for the cheap and cheerful Kwikfit service later on, when I decide my aircon isn't cool enough
I have had mine serviced by VW and it definitely improved things. They empty and regas. The only separate part they charged for was £15 for Zaircon air con cleaner. I used to have it done on my previous Golf and found it beneficial on that too.

Be careful with kwikfit they'll probably tell you a load of work needs doing. A local mechanic I know said they have monthly targets to hit so they often advise work that is not necessary. Stick to your guns and insist on just the aircon.
