Mine was updated at the dealers when I went in for a Service. Didn't make much of a difference

Oh really? I was under the impression it can change the view and remove all the bugs which the originals were filled with?

Well, I assume mine is the latest firmwire since the dealers specifically said they updated it. The bugs with connection to iPhone 4 are still the same - delayed track info display, sometimes not recognising the device etc etc. All these I dont mind, but it's not the most perfect system I've ever used. In fact, it's the one thing about the car that I'd change.

Connections to devices (Like an iPhone,iPod etc) might be fixed with a firmware update on the MDI module not the RCD510. The firmware updates are done using the USB MDI cable and a memory stick and the My-GTI site has the firmware.

Has anyone managed to download the firmware upgrade? I went on My-GTi and it has a link to a download but when i try to download it i get a dialogue box saying it doesn't recognise the software so cannot open it. My car is a 2012 delivered 1st March, will it have the latest software already installed or is there a newer version?

I tried, but my car refused to take the upgrade.
I remember a 2012 upgrade being on My-Gti. If your build week is before the upgrade release week (stated on the site), it might be worth trying.
Don't attempt to open the file as you might corrupt it! Just download it on a memory stick and plug it into your MDI.

Having said all this, I assume you mean the MDI firmware upgrade on My-Gti

You need to Save the file to your computer NOT open it, its not intended to run on a PC. Once saved to your computer copy it to a USB stick and then plug that in to your MDI and turn on the ignition / start the car. Read the notes on the MyGTi site about doing all this.

Tried the update, wouldn't update so i guess i must have the latest firmware already. I still have problems with my iphone 5, can't get it to stream music, fed up of it.

I've tried streaming bluetooth and also plugged into the MDi with an adapter for the iPhone 5, the bluotooth symbol shows up on the display but will not play music!

The MDI firmware update will only resolve problems with the MDI connection. For the Bluetooth streaming you will need to look at updating the Bluetooth module. Are you using the factory Bluetooth or a Fiscon? If it's a Fiscon I would suggest contacting Richter Sport if you are in the UK or Kufetec for the rest of the work. The provide firmware updates for newer phones. If it's a factory Bluetooth you will probably need to contact the dealer, I don't think firmware's are available.

Unless you are using a genuine Apple iPhone 5 adapter it is very unlikely that you would get audio output, most copies only charge the iPhone. On top of that even the Apple adapter doesn't work with all systems a d it won't give you full iPod type control.

Thats maybe why it doesnt work when plugged into the MDI as it is a copy adapter. I'm still at a loss as to why it wont stream music via bluetooth as it shows the bluetooth symbol on the media screen every time i have bluetooth switched on in my phone.

Another thing, if i am listening to media sources and i get a text message it automatically switches over to bluetooth audio and i have to manually switch it back to the source i was listening to!!!!

Just used this to update my MDI and have eradicated the annoying gap between songs when playing from my iPhone. Never realised how much it was annoying me until I fixed it. Total bliss. Thanks for the link
