Tyre sizes

Post by abc121710 »

Just looking at the tyre sizes on the 17" long beach alloys, when you buy the 1.4 ti 122 the sizes are 205/50, but on the 160 hp model the same alloys are 225/45. why is that?? just out of interest

Perhaps it's to improve fuel economy? Isn't the 122hp variant a Bluemotion model? But whatever is gained in fuel economy is presumably lost in handling and traction.

Hi All

This is my first post, hopefully of many if I join the ranks of Scirocco owners, which having test-driven a TSi 160 DSG yesterday, I think I want to do!

The car I drove was a 2010/60 plate and it was on 235/45 R17's all round. I think it should be on 225/45 tyres. Could other owners of this model confirm that's the case please?

If it is, any thoughts on why it's on slightly bigger rubber? The wheels were correct, as in right style as per the brochure.

Many thanks

235 is the correct width and it's the width used for 17". 18" and 19" wheels from the factory.

No - only the 140 TDI has BMT.
