Quick Easy Question's Need Answering Please

Post by SXI-Matt »

Hi all, new to the forum my names Matt and am currently in the process of buying a scirocco :) need a quick few questions answering though please?

Looking to buy a GT 170 TDI and being new to VW as always been a vauxhall man I'm a little lost with few specs ect.

What populer or must have extras are there to look out for, I went to view one yesterday that had LOADS on it, auto lights/wipers, sat nav/HDD/Video ect, Leather.

What models had the black roof lining and pillars as this one was all black in side and some have the cream interior... I really want the black lining was this an extra or certain models that come with it? Also the stereo ect what models were there to choose from? Do they all have a HDD or is this only certain models ect?

Thanks In Advance & appreciate this is asked SO MUCH

SXI-Matt: Black rooflining is only available on 2.0GT and the R as standard. It is possible to get it on a 140TDI GT or a 170TDI GT if leather seats are specced. The one you looked at will be black rooflining due to the leather in it.

As for equipment, lots of standard stuff on the GT: Auto lights/wipers, ACC, 18" wheels RCD510 with 6CD changer and lots of connectivity for playing your MP3s or connecting your ipod etc, multifunction steering wheel, tinted rear windows, the list goes on. Satnav is an option, Leather was an option (are they giving it away in Rocs now as it's getting a bit older?), the HDD comes in the SatNav equipped cars only for storage of satnav maps and music, Xenons are extra. You should have a good look at the current brochure. Buying new or nearly new?

Rear parking sensors are a popular add on as is Winter pack (headlight washers and heated seats - which I would not now be without).

Depending on age, prior to mid 2011 Bluetooth was a cost option (before it became standard), and as Maisbitt stated leather also an option before it became standard (if leather then heated seats will already be fitted). I also have folding mirrors on mine and cruise control.

I think with MY2012, leather and satnav + bluetooth is standard. Hope this isn't wrong information, as it was in the brochure I got from VW while looking last year.

Rear parking sensors are VERY popular as soochucker said. It's funny, because I don't find the scirocco hard to park at all, so could have done without the rear sensors

Not all of MY2012 cars as I have one and they were options. I think they became standard around week 45 build.

Thanks for the quick replies, ill be buying 2nd hand around a 2009 model year. It was bugging me about the black roof lining lol so thanks for clearing that to, looks like ill deff be going for leather then.

Ill be looking for a GT to so looks like ill get some nice extras any way, rear parking sensors would be nice to as would nav but think that was quite rare doesn't seem to be many with that extra.

Am I right in saying they all come with the touch screen unit? Also was there a facelift year? Most I've been looking at have the white display in the middle of the dials but have seen a few were this is red? Did any think else change?

The big update was the 2010 MY (please others correct if wrong). That changed most of the electronics from the older MK5 platform to the newer MK6 platform. This meant White clocks and DIS screen, new style MK6 MFSW (with chrome inserts), and new climate controls with display mirrored on the head unit.

To be honest, (an in my humble opinion) the later one looks better and would be the one I would consider.

Ok quick google answered my 2 question around the steering wheel and display. I've out 2 pictures up is the top one the new one? Seems all diesels have this never seen the older style one I'm any diesel but in all petrol models.

I definitely prefer the top picture, and all I've looked at have the nicer wheel and white dials ect info prefer that one. Only thing i do notice is some have normal heater dials and some have a little electronic display is this an extra they've spec'd?

Being pedantic Bob but is the MY2010 not from May 2009? Reason I say this is that I was somewhat miffed when they revised the instrument display/steering wheel within weeks of me taking delivery on my 09 plate.

Yes - the one in your last picture is the upgraded one, this came along later on MY2010 (MY2010.5) with Functionally I believe they are identical but as has been suggested, the roccopedia should answer this. http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/roccop ... of_2009.29" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Perfect thanks looking through that its now answered every thing for me, HOWEVER my last question and an important one for me is the gearboxs...

Found 2 one manual and one auto, manaul is from a garage and auto is a private sale, are the autos well made and reliable as in safe enough to buy private or best to get manual if going private??

The DSG is reliable and has been used for many years now, there should be plenty of info within the forum to help, this is a recent post. http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... al#p114875" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Bear in mind though that a fault with DSG out of warranty could prove costly. Saying that though, I am certain my next car will be a DSG.

For auto suggest you Google 'DSG reliability' and like a lot of things you will see negative views from people who had bad experiences. I actually had a DSG box replaced on the last day of warranty a few years ago in a previous car (Golf V), it was used and was actually four years old but only with 20,000 - that sort of shook me a bit and I am not sure I would be comfortable running a three or four year old DSG box out of warranty again personally - but then there are probably hundreds of members here who do!

What I will say is that the 170 TDI motor coupled with DSG is a BRILLIANT combination and puts a smile on your face every time you drive!

PS - Re specs - there are things which you can add after market fairly easily such as sat-nav and others which are more of a nuisance (but still possible) such as folding mirrors and cruise control (although thats quite easy on early cars). Other things such as parking sensors and heated seats are best had as factory options. All leather seats from the factory are heated as standard btw.

I had parking sensors retro-fitted by the stealer when I bought mine, they did me for about £240 but having had sensors on my previous 2 cars I didn't want to be without them.

Having just test drove one it had a button next to the traction control that I assume was for the suspension as it had comfort / sport mode is this standard or was it an extra? It was a gt 170 with DSG I drove
