Boot will not open completely

Post by nbrandborg »

Hey guys.

I picked up my new used Scirocco'09 from the dealer wednesday evening.
But I have experienced a problem since I came home.

When I will open the boot from inside the car and from the key it causing me some big problems. When the boots opens it says two sounds after each other, but if I miss to open the boot between the first and second sound, it wont open at all. That cannot be right? :(

Have any of you experienced the same problem?

Sounds like you need to take it back to the garage for them to look at. It should release the latch and pop open about 2cm. Then you just lift the tailgate to open. It might not be fully releasing or the gas struts might be sagging a bit. You could try some grease on the latch, both the car and boot lid parts in case it's sticking.

It do release those 2cm you talks about, but it locks itself a second after, so I have to be really quick to open the boot, and it is impossible to open it from the inside if no one are ready to open it.
It's like that "safety-mechanism" that make makes sure that the tailgate dont pops up open if you havent closed it completely, kicks in when I try to open it.

It should be the telescopics that are playing up, mine did this in the dealership, told them I wanted it sorted, found out 1 was gone !

Check the 2 spring loaded bump stops. They could be broken not allowing the hatch to rise up enough on unlocking.
Whatever you do don't lubricate them because then they will be knackered

This has happened to me, but only when the boot was a bit frozen!

I had the same problem, resolved by adjusting the 2 bump-stops (which are spring loaded).

Basically, pop an appropriate size allen key into the hole at the end of the bump-stop and loosen to the point that you can removed the bump stop from it's housing - will come out with a square shaped peg on the end with grooves one. basically set this a little farther out, then tighten the allen key (all this essentially does is look that peg into the housing)

After a bit of trial and error I have managed to get mine to pop enough so that the second sound (the lock springing back after the initial unlock) doesn't catch the pin, and the boot can simply be lifted open. Initially I had them set to far out and the boot spring a bit too far and also when shut, there seemed to be excessive pressure on the boot as the panel gap where the boot meets the body above the tail lights seemed to bit, after some adjusting (basically loosening and pushing the peg in a notch or 2 at a time) I've got the panel gap perfect all the way down he boot side, and it's springs open enough to not catch again.

This has just happened to me, one of my bump stops flew off this afternoon and now I can't get back into the boot. You can hear the mechanism sort of releasing, but the tailgate does not pop up enough to be able to lift it up.

These bump stops are a little bit of an issue, hopefully I can get it sorted without a dealer visit. Any further advice appreciated.

Got the boot open now, as described above need the fob to open while I am stood by the tailgate. Can't use the internal release now. Will have to get a new bump stop from VW, thankfully they do seem to be quite cheap.
