Media Centre
Hi
Just purchased a Scirrocco 2.0 TSI GT on Friday and absolutely loving it! Cant wait to get in and drive!
The only issue I have is the radio. I woudl have preferred a Bluetooth Option but is doesnt have it and is the standard RCD510 Head Unit.
I am happy to upgrade to get the bluetooth but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the best way to go about it. I woudl prefer a new Head Unit which is compatable with the OEM controls on the dashboard/steering wheel, etc
Any ideas on the best course of action or suitable units.
Bluetooth is a must, SatNav would be nice, TV/DVD, etc would also be nice.
I have looked at the next model up but didnt know if I also needed the underseat bluetooth module?
Thanks

If you want to remain factory, you can add factory Bluetooth to the existing RCD-510, which integrates with the car perfectly. Full display on the head unit, controllable from the steering wheel, and if you have the highline DIS (the full height computer between the speedo and rev counter), then it shows up on that as well.
If you want sat-Nav, the current top of the tree (from the VW factory units) is the RNS-510. Full map data in 2d or 3d format, which is all stored on the internal hard disk drive. Looks very similar to the RCD-510, but as said adds full Nav, hdd, and the ability to store your audio tracks on the unit as well. Same size screen but much higher resolution. You would still need to add the factory Bluetooth module (as you would if you we're keeping the RCD-510). It does loose the 6 disc cd changer function of the RCD unit, but of course with the hdd, you can store many more cd's worth on the head unit. RNS also gives you a DVD rather than CD drive, which means it will play DVD movies as well (whilst you are stationary -although I understand there's a hack for that).
A newer option is the RNS-310. This has Nav and Bluetooth built right into the unit. Doesn't have a hdd like the RNS510 or a 6 disc changer like the RCD510, and it has a smaller screen, but the advantage is that it's all combined in one unit. The RNS-310 is what all the Sciroccos are shipping with now.
Hope this helps.

Re: Media Centre
My car has RCD510 installed too, however, it also came with a seperate bluetooth unit. It has it's own dedicated screen, and it seems to be VW equipment.
I would really love to get rid of it (and the RCD510), and have the RNS310 or RNS 510 installed. However, I wouldnt even know where to start with that. I guess I could buy the unit, but I would definitely need someone who was clued up to fit it for me.
VW do offer to fit a Kenwood unit though (it's like the RNS310), but they charge £1000 to fit it! I am not sure I can justify spending that
I will keep my eye on this thread for any valuable information

Re: Media Centre
Good advice here - although this should read RNS-315 for UK cars.Sootchucker wrote:If you want to . The RNS-310 is what all the Sciroccos are shipping with now.
Re: Media Centre
You will need the VW under seat bluetooth unit. Fitting the RNS-510 is pretty straight forward - 15 minute job plus a bit of VCDS coding. These units can now be bought nearly new (legitimately) from UK ebay sellers - I got mine for just over £400 just after Christmas and am over the moon with it :-)dimexi wrote:My car has RCD510 installed too, however, it also came with a seperate bluetooth unit. PS: Changing the centre console surround to gloss black is also a nice enhancement as it matches the inserts on the RNS and the climate unit.

Re: Media Centre
Mark V, you are an absolute wealth of information!
Which Ebay buyer did you use for your RNS510? I have had a quick look for both the RNS510 and 315. I dont really mind whichever I get - I just want both the sat nav and bluetooth in one unit, plus the pedals I intend to buy, that will make my car absolute tip top I reckon.
I am tempted to buy the RNS now before I make my trip down to herts, and kill as many birds with one stone.
How much is the Under the seat module?

Re: Media Centre
I think most peeps agree the RNS-510 just looks better! It also has a bigger screen.... I will PM you the name of the seller.
Re Blutooth - the units sell for around £80 and needs to be wired/installed - there are 'how to's' on here but I have not installed Bluetooth myself, only the head unit. When was your car made (sorry you did mention earlier) - just to be sure its deffinately not already there - you need a microphone too if your car has never had a Bluetooth system?

Re: Media Centre
MY car currently does have a bluetooth system, and a microphone. It seems to be a VW make as well, so I might already have the module installed. I can't access the phone via my MFD or the RCD510 though
Re: Media Centre
If you have the stock VW version it will be in a polystyrene box housed under the drivers seat. There will also be settings for phone connectivity in your MFD.... ? Sounds more like a Parrot system as you mentioned a seperate screen...
Re: Media Centre
^^^ definitely this.Mark V wrote:Sounds more like a Parrot system as you mentioned a seperate screen...
VW did sell the parrot system branded as VW for a little while

I will look under the seat. Not sure if I have the parrot system, the one I have is this:

Ah, I suppose it is Parrot then. Was deceived by the VW logo that showed up during its boot process.

I have one of these. Its a Bury CC9060 but with VW firmware and matches the style if the standard RNS510 theme.

Re: Media Centre
Ah I see. So is it a substitute for the Fiscon bluetooth that goes under the seat?
Can you control your phone from your RNS?

It's not fiscon under the seat, if fiscon is fitted the box is small & goes behind the dash, the vw box (rsap or proper bluetooth) goes under the seat. Yes the bury system is an alternative to those or the parrot system (this has a separate but slightly smaller screen)
I will split this off when I get a chance as we've derailed the original thread a little
