tyre wrecked

Post by wag29 »

Hi all,
Had a bit of bad luck today, n/s/f tyre wrecked today by a pothole  tear in the sidewall, popped to local ats they quoted £230 fitted. Did not want to pay the first price given, so went home and went online for better price. Best price i found was from kwik fit online they quoted £190.80 supply fit at local depot and balance. So just out of interest i rang the same depot and for for price and they quoted £309!! :eyepop: strange one that, such a big difference for the same tyre. going in friday just hope they deliver the right tyre on the day, tyre quoted for was pirelli p zero 235/35/19 91y. Going to take some photos tommorow with some dimensions and try and put a claim into the local council

Sorry to hear this.

There are so many variants of OEM fitments for the P Zero in that size for McLaren and Ferrari that you sometimes get quoted silly prices.

The OEM VW one is the K1 variant, currently £166 from Camskill.

Hi, yes that is what i was worried about with so many varients i did not want them fitting a p zero with a different tread pattern i think the one i have is a k1 also xl which ithink is a vw varient. Will try and check with kwik fit online just to be sure it is the correct one they are supplying on the day.

I Think all P Zeros all have the same tread pattern. It only changes when it's a P Zero Nero or P Zero Rosso.

I watch the price and buy when thebprice is low and keep them until needed. Sods law when you need them the price will be high or no one will have them.

The last 2 I bought were £151 each from Camskill at the end of last year.

Update on issue with wrecked tyre from pothole, council have sent a letter to me saying they are investigating the issue.Had new tyre fitted last friday by tyres on the drive at £199.42, and beleive it or not travelling along A46 this evening no street lighting so was pitch black doing 60 MPH, and hit another pothole on same wheel and yet another tyre f***ing knackered with only 30miles use i was really p****ed off. Had to change wheel on side of dual carriageway with cars and trucks flying past in the dark was to say the least scary. So online again in morning to order another tyre, and part with another
£199.42 . £400 in 2 weeks due to the lack of care and maintenance of Coventry city council!!. THANKYOU!!

Sorry to hear this that really is a bummer.

Make sure you check Camskill for tyres as £199 seems,a bit expensive. I bought a couple of 19" P Zeros last year from them for just over £300.

Ouch I feel sorry for you mate. Banbury is coverd in potholes at the moment. Some I have seen must be at least 6 inches deep. I'm so cautious now when driving around town.

There is no way I would consider doing that - its extremely dangerous at night (not even that safe during the day). Are you a member of AA or RAC? I would strongly suggest getting some sort of cover if you no longer have VW Assist - its just not worth the risk to life and limb....

Hi thanks for replys and compassion, and the answer to Mark V question yes i do have cover on vehicle but at time of incident i was just so annoyed about it i just wanted to change wheel and get home my blood was boiling, and i was not in the mood to stand and wait for recovery to turn up, though i know it was not the most sensible thing to do. The location of the pot hole was on A46 just before the last lay-by heading towards m6 j2 and m69 junction.
