Buying a used scirocco

Just wondering wheres best to buy a 2nd hand scirocco,im after a 2.0 tdi 170 gt model, ive seen a few on auto trader but dont wanna buy private, i want one from a garage but dont know which one is best to use, has anyone else bought 2nd hand if so where did you buy from and how much did you pay.

Like buying any car look carefully at the service history and make sure you take a good test drive. I know the stealers are somewhat dearer than independants but most I'm sure will give some kind of good warranty. But obviously there are even some dealers that are perhaps best avoided. I was careful when selecting where to buy mine from new. I've only been back to the dealer for my first service as I've had no problems with the 170 whatsoever. Easy to do some customer satisfaction research on VW dealers.

Last month I bought my 170 TDI (DSG) from a VW main dealer. It was 11 months old at the time and I paid £18,950.00.

Markv: Are you some kind of hypnotist? Great price for an 11 month old car with a list price of about £26k, i'd have expected a part ex price in the region of what you paid for yours (makes me worry about what my pat ex price will actually be when I trade in).

And with less than 6k on it too! The truth is this car was an anomaly - I really thought they had got the wrong price on it (should have been about £21.5k - or that when I saw it the spec would have been wrong or manual gearbox or whatnot but it wwas all as advertised). Needless to say I put a deposit down before they had the chance to change their mind!

Still cant really figure out why it was priced so low - it had been used by a VW employee as his company car (previous owners name on V5 is Volkswagen UK Ltd) but it was immaculate inside and out - not sure if that has any affect really...

As I said on the previous post diesel/petrol, the px price will be whatever the dealer wants rid of at the time of year and what he has on his forecourt or in stock, that is the whole farce of residuals, forget Parkers, Wisebuyers etc, dealers only look at CAP as a guide, I've had differences of over £2k when I've pxed cars.

I October I bought a pre reg 62 2TSI with 8 miles on the clock, the price I paid to change was over £2k cheaper than a demonstrator of the same spec car that had 3.5K miles on the clock that the dealer was trying to sell on the forecourt, explain that one? because I can't, except they probably get certain bonuses etc off VW, and the car I bought was supplied to the dealer direct from VW, whereas the dealer owned the demonstrator.

My advice when buying any car, try several dealers, you will be very, very surprised of the differences for px and cost to change, also time of year I think is a big factor, if you can't get the deal you want walk away because somebody will give you the deal.

Good point Tony - but obviously this is only really relevent when buying new as used cars are unique and you will never find two at different dealer that are identical in every way....
