iPod cable in glovebox??

Post by T4ben »

I've been looking on here all day to solve this problem but with no success so hope someone can help.
I have a iPod cable in the glovebox of my 60 plate that charges the phone and ipod but does not come up on the
rns 510?
Could someone of maybe just fittd a charger? Or am I just missing something really stupid?

Thoughts would be much appreciated!

Given that there's an MDI connection in the armrest which does connect to the head unit and charge the iPod/iPhone this would be quite odd as a retrofit.

Sounds like it - cars either are fitted with a CD-changer or a MDI (Multi Device Interface) at the factory - never heard of it being installed in the glovbox so yours may be just a charger with no connection to the RNS.

the early cars had the mdi installed in the glovebox rather than the armrest so its not at all odd to have it retrofitted in there.
what happens if you go to the mdi screen on your radio headunit when your ipod is plugged into the cable? is it definitely the mdi block connector?

There is a jack aux in the arm rest. But when either a iPhone is plugged into the cable in the glovebox nothing comes up on the stereo, not that I can see anyway. I'm thinking now its just a Charger but seems a lot of effort to fit it that way when you could just plug a charger into the 12v.

When you plug the iPhone in are you waiting for something automatically to happen or are you pushing the "Media In" button?

I press the media button but it just brings up the hard drive cd and aux, press the aux but nothing happens.

I remember on the older systems the dock would substitute for the CD and you would put 6 folders on the iPod and it would play as if they were CDs.

When you plug in the iPOD does the CD function still control CD?

There isn't a switch somewhere in the glovebox to switch between the 2 sources like some dension installs have?

I've just wedged my hand through the gap in the glovebox and pulled out a small unit with a USB and aux jack plug and a reset so I reset it and plugged my iPod in. got sound for a few seconds then I get a message on the iPod saying Dension gateway 5 attached to accessory ok to connect. I can't control anything on the head unit and when this message comes up I also can't do anything on the iPod?
