ACC

Post by john250666 »

Hi all new to this board, and all things Scirocco (and VW!) was wondering if anyone knows how tho active chassis control works, is it just the suspension it changes, or does it affect oyher things like steering and throttle response ? Hope this doesn't appear a silly question , but never owned a car of this calibre before!! cheers john

I'm sure somebody will be along soon to help you more than I can but I know it stiffens the steering up and suspension. Not sure about throttle response.

As I understand, it only varies the firmness of the dampers and the weight of the steering and has no affect on the throttle profile.

I'm with the others. Suspension is obvious and I'm pretty sure it changes the steering weight. But I think that's it. Would have loved a button to switch gearbox to S, and ACC to sport... But it's not to be.

Does anyone report an appreciable difference between the three ACC settings?

Before I got my Rocco, I thought ACC was just a gimmick but after having it, it does make a difference and I can easily feel the difference on all 3 settings.

Anyone know why VW removed ACC from the lower end 2012 model's? I know my 1.4 160 Rocco (being built next week :)) doesn't have it.
Has been standard the last few years!

I would assume for cost and model differentiation reasons.

Interesting that you guys all seem impressed with the ACC, as I;m, well......completely underwhelmed, and would have been pea'd off if I'd shelled out serious dosh for it.

Had the car from new in April 2011, and out of the 3 modes, Sport is the only one I can feel any sort of difference in (mainly the steering weight which gets quite a bit heavier). As for Comfort and Normal modes, I can't tell ANY difference between them at all !

Maybe somethings broken on mine or maybe the 140 diesel can't push the chassis hard enough to notice properly ?

I do really like it and notice the difference when putting it in Sport, but as you said, generally feel no difference between Comfort and Normal.

EDIT: After a play with it this morning on the way to work, I could *just* notice the difference between Normal and Comfort. Nowhere near as noticeable the difference between Normal and Sport. I never drive with it in Normal though. Comfort for everyday and commuting, Sport for when I get out of the city!

I have it in comfort mode all the time, and I can't tell the difference between normal and comfort...
Sport mode is very noticeable steering stiffens up, and it's a harder ride.

Interesting coments - I have mine just left in 'Normal' - but I guess I will have to find the right road and try out the Sport setting at some point. It does not seem to make a difference on a normal straight A road - so I am guessing the trick is to take advantage of it in the appropriate situation....

I'm completely the opposite, there's a distinct difference between the three settings, perhaps I'm more sensitive in the seat of my pants than most or it might be an age thing :p

Difference is very noticeable yet its probably the one feature I could live without as I hardly ever change it from normal. If it was an option when I bought I probably wouldn't have got it.

My understanding was ACC also adjusted the throttle response also, or at least on the R, I wouldnt spec it though as it never came out of comfort mode on my R as the settings go from Firm to even firmer to shake the doors off, i had 19" wheels though.
