Electrically foldable door mirrors

Post by mwheelersmith »

Hi everyone

New here, ordered a 1.4 (160) Scirocco in Candy White back in November and am awaiting build. Current delivery date of 18th Feb, sure it will be worth the wait.
I ordered a few options including "electrically foldable door mirrors" and had a question for anyone with them.

I understand they are primarily operated from the drivers door via a switch, however wandered if they could also be operated from the key fob?
I have a couple of friends with the Seat Leon, which I understand is effectively a Golf/Scirocco, both 12 plates. On one it only works via the switch but on the other (an FR) it can be operated from the key.

Any info would be much appreciated :)
Thanks in advance.

Hello Miles,

Welcome to the forum.

In answer to the Q. No they won't work with the fob, just the door control. However, there is an interface box out in China? which is on YuoTube which interfaces. Not seen how its fitted into the electrics.

Golf mk6 have this option from remote, probably Scirocco could this too if have newer type of central electronics after lifting with 2010 model year.

Thanks both

This is what I'm reading, a lot of owners are saying "no" Scirocco dosnt have this feature. However most are running 2008/2010 models.
I suppose I can only wait and see but not get my hopes up!

The only problem I can see with having to operate them from the door is... You parallel park down a tight road, fold in your door mirrors, go to get out of the car and then realise you can't see behind you to know if it's safe to open the door :?

I have a 2012 model and it only works off the internal switch. You're right, I often fold the mirrors in and then have to look over my shoulder to see if any cars are coming before I get out, its a pain.

I also had a MK6 golf and it worked exactly the same.on that. I'm sure some clever tech on here could get this to work off the remote with one of those after market modules that are out there or even the one from the Leon FR?!

As I thought unfortunately. I suppose you can't complain for a £145 option. They are considerably more pricey on Audi's and BMW's.

May be a stupid question but I assume you can fold them in manually (push them) if you only need to quickly fold one in?

Thanks again.

Never tried to fold them manually mate, I would assume you would be working against the motor if you did which is likely to damage it but I don't know for sure.

Are you going to look into fitting a module, I'd be really interested to find a fix, maybe worth us both doing a bit research?

Yeah did a bit of research and it looks as if once you have the module (no idea where from/part number). You remove the door insert and pop it in between to connections (so the two existing cables connect through the module) I assume you would need to do this on both doors.

I have also read it's not just as simple as the above. Apparently the module also needs VAG COM or VCDS reprogramming... Whatever that is.

To be honest I'm not sure if I have the nerve to go messing with a brand new car, worried about warranty. Let me know if you decide to go for it, would love to know how you get on!

Those who have newer electric have tried to long push remote or short push? It should fold mirrors when you push it long like when you close windows from remote.

Mark, I have tested this some time ago in 2012 Seat Leon, mirrors fold when I push locking button on remote, identical like with window comfort closing, and mirrors have folded.

The Seat Leon does have tbis function but neither the MK6 Golf or Scirocco has. VW are introducing it on the MK7 Golf, just released.

But your post (the one I responded negativley to) said Golf Mk.VI had it - now you are talking about the Leon (which is of course known to have this feature)!

I have seen scan of instruction in Polish language where it was about folding mirrors with remote, I was thinking it was from Golf 6 :fall:

It would not have been referring to Golf VI or Scirocco - its definately not possible to fold the mirrors on these cars via the remote key fob. Its been discussed extensivley on most forums for years - but never solved!

Nah mate, long push makes no difference, tried that when I first picked my car up, sorry. :(
