If you're talking about what I think you are, it's the auto heat/cool/air thingy.

You set the temp with the dial, and it'll use it's sensors to decide where to blow the air, how hard and how warm, to get you to the temp you selected.

Auto also has 2 settings, one a low fan setting and the other a higher fan setting.

Just be aware that it's completely oblivious to how long the engine's been running, so in these wintery days it'll think it's doing you a favour by blowing hurricane force freezing cold air in your face when you start up.

That could be down to sunlight. It has a light sensor which n the summer compensates for the cabin being exposed to direct sunlight by blowing cold air. I'm pretty sure the winter sun fools it.

If you push "auto" once the left hand LED comes on and a small fan appears in the display beside the word "auto" but if you push it again the right hand LED comes on and a large fan appears on the display.

All explained in the manual.

No no, what I mean is soon after you start the engine it'll blow loads of air through the heater, which is still cold, to try to warm you up when you've just got in from the cold, leaving you cold. It doesn't seem to be smart enough to wait until there's warm air coming through to crank up the flow. Well mine isn't anyway.

Mine doesn't do as you describe, it waits to the air is warm before it increases the fan speed.
