My new Scirocco. Plans/Questions

Post by Jonny_Smith »

Hi everyone

I'm new to this whole forum thing so bare with me!

I picked up my Scirocco on Saturday and have absolutely loved every minute of driving it this week.
It's easily so far the best car i have ever driven (possibly because it's the most powerful) :vibes:
Having come over from a 1.8TFSI (160hp) A3 S-tronic 58 plate and prior to that a golf GT Sport TDI 57 plate i'm used to the whole German scene, however the car just feels so well put together compared to either of these, whether this is new technologies or just in general the car feels so nice to drive and the gearbox (manual)/engine combo is hands down the best i have ever driven.

The car is a 2.0tsi 59 Plate Manual

With the following options:
Bi-Xenons (took me ages to find one with these)
Parking Sensors
Heated Nappa leather seats (Possibly standard?)
6CD, Ipod and Aux in armrest (Again possibly standard)
Highline DIS

Possible plans for the car:
Bluefin remap (after the winter)
Possibly change colour of wheels (Anthracite or black)
New LED day time running lights, sidelight and no plate lights.
Miltek/custom exhaust (Possibly)

I bought the car with the intentions of remapping it and later adding a Miltek cat-back, however the car sounds so good standard i'm having second thoughts on the exhaust. With regards to the remap, the car has brand new Dunlop's SP Sport Maxx and it's still struggling to put the power down (we have crap weather in Newcastle) so the remap may be on hold until spring/summer.

I also have a few questions i'm hoping you can help me with:
Is it possible using VAGCOM to have the sidelights as the drl's on the autolight setting?
How bad is the problem with the pillar-less windows freezing and not dropping that i've been hearing about?
How hard/expensive would a retrofit bluetooth be (I have RCD510)
Does the ACC settings change just the suspension stiffness or does it also change other things?

Sorry if i've bored some of you, and also apologies for the horrendous photo's, they're stolen from VW approved, i'll be cleaning/polishing the car in the morning so will hopefully get some better pictures.

Hope to meet some of you fellow North East rocco drivers soon

Welcome to the forum and I'll answer one of your questions.

Changing the ACC setting also varies the weight of the steering

One of these applied to the seals every so often will help with the windows sticking in very cold mornings.

My Rocco has the same RCD 510 unit you have. The dealer fitted a Mobridge blue tooth connection at a cost of the equivalent of £ 200. It took about an hour to fit. Initially the microphone was installed on the steering column where it was an eyesore with a piece of cable being routed down the column into the dashboard. Held on by a tiny piece of double sided tape it was a matter of weeks before it was dislodged whilst the interior was being cleaned. I had an audio service firm re-fit the microphone where the motion sensors are fitted. It works well and is worth the money spent on it.

"How bad is the problem with the pillar-less windows freezing and not dropping that i've been hearing about?"

I've done two winters in mine now and it's never happened to me but I know some others have had it happen. If concerned about it rub some silicone spray into the rubbers and that does apparently help prevent it.
