My headlights will not turn off

Post by GTMajik »

Hey everyone,

I seem to have an issue with my headlights. When i completely turn them to the '0' on the light switch they still stay on where as all my dash lights are off. When i put them to my dimmers the headlights turn off. When on auto they are always on...

Please advise if this is a setting on the car or its actually faulty..

Thanks

Unless your car has Xenons the the headlights are on all the time, basically as DRLs. Off and Auto on the headlight switch don't do anything.

Nothing wromg with your car.

To have a standard switch across the range as if you have Xenons the off and auto functions do work.

This worked for me:

1. With the ignition off, push the indicator stalk down and pull it towards you (as if putting the left indicator on and flashing the full beam at someone). Hold it in this position (your indicator and full beam will be activated)

2. Now turn the ignition on with your key (still holding the indicator stalk in the position above).

3. Count slowly to five and you should hear a chime.

4. Turn the ignition off and release the indicator stalk and put it back in it's central position.

To turn them back on just repeat the above but with the indicator in the up position (right hand indicator on)

On some cars you can turn the DRLs off in VCDS as well, so that the "Auto" switch position does what it's supposed to do.

Older stalk method above is valid for Sciroccos upto Build Week 44/09 (---> 01.11.09.). After that its VCDS or even later Scirocco's with the MFD "untick" method.

As he said, VCDS (Vag-Com). Older method I used won't work on your latest model.

As said you will still need VCDS to set it up. The "tick" option in the MFD menus, should qualify as it applies to Xenons only iirc.
