Tdi 140 or 170?

Post by Eskimo »

Hi guys,

New here so hi! Just put down a deposit for a 2010 2.0 tdi on Sunday. I was tiold it was the 140 version, but how can I confirm this? The dealer didn't sound too confident that it was 140!

Cheers

170 has chrome tailpipes 140 doesn't.

Look at the rating plate on the driver's door, if it gives the power as 102KW it's a 140 and if it's 125 it's a 170

Thanks for the info.

I can't check the door information until I get it obviously but I'm pretty sure it didn't have chrome tips so must be 140.

No big deal to me, didn't buy for the power. Can easily get it remapped I suppose if I wanted it up to that level.

Cheers again!

Only outward difference is the red i on TDi and chrome tail pipes. The information should be low on the driver B billar 125kw for the 170.

I think it’s safe to assume it’s a 140. If it’s a 170 it's worth more money and the seller would know about it.

How easily do the badges come off and do they leave marks that are difficult to remove?

Quite fancy getting shot of the 2.0 and tdi

Easy with dental floss. Link to Roccopedia

But..... how old? As the adhesive can leave a dark discolouration shadow in the top lacquer coat. Ghosting after badge removal

It's a 10 plate, 8000k on the clock. Looks mint.

Ye the ghosting is my real concern. Removed badges on my Type R and left a right mess that I couldn't correct with polish/ wax etc.

That age and White colour, you'll get a noticable ghosting image. The red one in the link was only about 12 months iirc.

I'll leave as is then. Unsightly but not as unsightly as ghosting.

Off topic I know, but whats the standard speakers like in the car? I'm not huge audio freak but like a decent sound. If crap what's the best options for upgrade? Normal speakers? Under seat sub? it has the media unit which has the 6 disk changer built in and has the ipod connector in the centre storage area if that helps. Can this unit take a sub?

I've got the same set-up and have no real complaints. More than adequate is a fair description. All dependent on what you're normally listening to and how loud.

TBH it will most likely be more than decent enough for me. It certainly can be no worse than what comes standard in a Type R and lived with that for 5 years!

The standard radio in mine is pretty good, certainly the best standard kit I've ever had. I don't like wasting money on upgrades to radios in cars, I'd rather spend the money on good audio for my home.

I have the same one. It's worth paying around with the aux input gain in the settings when you get it. Mine was at max and caused a poorer quality sound at high volumes. I lowered this and run the unit volume high with great sound now. You can also use the usb adaptor that should come with the car to connect a mobile phone etc (mounted as a usb device) and also the aux in 3.5mm jack to listen to anything with a headphone out point - but you will need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable for this, which are dead cheap to buy. Again, experiment with the aux gain. I've never heard the speakers distort.

Never had any problems with USB-in on my TDI 170 - the engine noise is not worth worrying about and I love the way the stereo automatically turns the volume up a bit when I'm pushing on and exhaust note feeds through into the cabin !

I bought my Scirocco four months ago and I removed my badge about one month ago with a hair dryer, it took me about 15-20 minutes!

However I had no discolouration after that... In France we all remove our badges and there is no marks after the removal !?
